Dress after dress falls to the floor. Your hands make quick work of your closet as you debate on what to wear. Spring weather determines some part of your fashion, but the rest is up to you. All you know is that you want to wear a dress.
Another half an hour passes and you finally decide on a maroon long-sleeved mini-dress with black tights underneath. Gold accessories accompany your outfit in the form of a necklace and bracelets. You wear your hair down with a headband.
A knock on the door pulls you from your inspection, and nostalgia fills your nerves. "Shuzo, I'm almost done."
"It's... university. Why are you taking so long?" he huffs out. He crosses his arms when you return to fixing your make up. "Why do you put in so much effort when you don't want to be stared at?"
You finish powdering the last little spot on your nose before turning to face him. A pout forms at his scowl. "It's not for anyone else but myself."
"You even bought hair extensions." His fingers dig into your strands, much to your protests, and grab a few strands of said extensions.
You swat his hand away from your tresses and grumble softly, "These were a gift from my mom for getting into university." An awkward cough responds and you realize the presence of the other person. "Oh, she's here today too?"
"My name is Marie," she interjects as she waves hello.
Shuzo's infamous lip curl appears and you know you've stepped on a landmine. "How many times do I have to tell you! She lives here now and goes to the same university as us."
"I-I know! I know! It was a joke," you try to defend yourself.
You eye her choice of wear for the first day: a cotton tee, blue jeans with a jacket tied around her waist and barely any makeup. She looks comfortable at the least. You glance down at yourself, a little flashy but romantic.
"You guys are always so comfortable around each other," she chuckles. It's the same comment she always makes and unfortunately, you know Shuzo won't hear the end of it when they are alone.
You force out a laugh before grabbing your bookbag and leaving your room. You shoo them towards the entrance of your new apartment with Marie walking ahead. "Well, you know... It's hard not to be comfortable around each other when we've been best friends forever."
Shuzo elbows you and you stick out your tongue. You made it worse for him, but you despise the policing she did on you two. "I know, I just wonder how Kuroko feels about all this."
You frown at her remark; she certainly knows how to hold her own. Memories of Kuroko's past comments resurface and a heavy sigh leaves you. "He understands my relationship with Shuzo and trusts me."
The three of you exit your apartment building and that's when you notice the form of your boyfriend waiting by the entrance. A bright smile emerges on your lips, and you sprint over to him. "Tetsuyaa!" You embrace him from the side, and he turns to reciprocate the hug.
"Your parents already left, but I wanted to walk with you to the train today," he mentions with you in his arms. Shuzo and Marie follow behind as they watch the two of you quietly. "Good morning."
They say their hello's and walk ahead of you two. They begin a conversation that you can faintly hear and it bothers you. "You think we can walk faster?" you ask Kuroko sweetly.
Instead of heeding to your wishes, Kuroko grabs your hand and gives you a stern expression. "[F.Name], it's probably for the best you don't eavesdrop. I'm sure they're speaking about you."
"I... don't think so. I've been nice to her today," you chuckle awkwardly.
Kuroko eyes you suspiciously. "Are you sure?"
"I may have made a joke, but it wasn't bad." Again, his stare brings you back to reality and you relent. "I'm going to make an effort today. I promise." Your gaze returns to Shuzo's back. He still argues with his girlfriend, frustrations quietly escaping the both of them.
And it's then you know that you have to improve your attitude with her.

At the gate of your university, you see many students your age entering. Excitement mixed with anxiety troubles your nerves, but Kuroko relaxes them as always.
"I'm always a phone call away." His hands tighten around yours. "I need to run to take the train home, but if you need me, I will drop everything."
His words envelope your heart with love and you can't help but become mush under it. You tiptoe to press your lips against his for a gentle kiss, one that gives you immense strength for the day. He presses a few more for good luck, earning him the chime of your giggles.
Shuzo watches on with minimal disgust. It's the same sentiment he holds seeing any public display of affection.
But the sound of his girlfriend clearing her throat returns his attention to her. "Oh... Good luck. I'll pick you up later," he mentions as he scratches the back of his head. Her face shows her expectation of more, but he doesn't supply what she wants. "See ya."
He turns on his heel and heads towards a different building. You don't have time to say your goodbye to him but it's for the best. One more kiss and you see Kuroko walk in the opposite direction, leaving you with Marie.
"We have the first two classes together, right?" you ask in a somewhat friendly manner.
"Yeah."
"Why don't we head there now to get some good seats?" Your question seems harmless enough and she nods her head. Thankfully, you guys toured the campus a few times to know your way around.
You go through the main entrance and notice a line at the elevators, forcing the stairs as your only option. Wordlessly, Marie and you decide on them and travel five flights of stairs. Your legs cry out in exhaustion when you reach the desired floor, but you ignore it and delve deeper into the building in search of your first class.
The words '5-120' imprinted on the door brings some relief, and Marie opens it and heads in first. Inside you find lines of tables that hold ten people per row. You both slide into the second row towards the middle and unpack your thin laptops that are quickly plugged into the outlet beneath the table.
Once settled, your eyes begin to wander around the room. Not many have arrived but those that have are already staring. It's a mixture of people that show no discernable attributes except one girl. Her hair is up in two high buns, each side is a different color; half is pink and half is her natural black hair. Her makeup is as vibrant as her hair with her clothes just as flashy: mini-skirt, long sleeve sheer black shirt, and a corset top.
She's your counter, and you marvel at the confidence she must have to pull off such a look. It takes her seconds to notice your attention from the fifth row and she sends you a peace sign. Unsure on how to proceed, you mimic the gesture which earns you a chuckle from her.
You hope it's your first friend until a plethora of people begin arriving. All of whom fill out your row and anywhere surrounding it. Soon, you're swarmed by conversation, never once turning around again to see that girl for the rest of the day.

A/N: So we get a tiny peek at Marie. She's a native of the US, but her parents are from Japan so she knows both English and Japanese. You'll get more sense of her character in the next few chapters. Hope you enjoyed <3
