The following day, you wake up at an obscene time. Usually, you got out of bed at around 8-9 in the morning. You've never been one to sleep late since you liked to keep yourself busy throughout the day. However today you descended from the stairs at two in the afternoon.

When you enter the kitchen, your mother whirls around to face you with an exasperated expression. "Where were you?!"

"Mmmm, I'm sleepy." That's all you can procure at the moment as you reach into the refrigerator for some milk.

"You ran off late last night and didn't return home until one in the morning! What on earth were you doing?" she continues to chastise you. "I also saw that you were walked home by a boy!"

Memories of the previous night flood into your brain and your knees begin to become mush. You stop pouring milk into your floral cup and sprint back into your room. Once inside, you search around for your phone until you find it charging neatly next to your bed. You unlock the phone and search through its contents.

"[NAME]!!" You hear your mother bustling through the stairs.

"Mom, wait I have to talk to Shuzo!"

She's already in your room, spatula on hand, but immediately her tirade quiets down. "Did something happen?" She appears deathly afraid to hear what might have transpired at midnight, and you don't bother answering despite her morbid concern.

When you hear the other line on the phone click, you rush to provide Shuzo the news. "I'm dating Kuroko!"

"[Name]... It's... like... one in the morning here," his voice flits through.

"I just wanted to tell you."

"...Good for you, let's talk about this later." He hangs up and you turn around to smile brightly at your mother.

"Ah uh, I was meeting up with my um... friend." You scratch your cheek. "Well, he's my b-boyfriend now."

Your mother sends you an incredulous look. "I swear Shuzo pampers you too much. You could have texted him over something like that."

"He does not... He's just been involved in this whole thing since middle school. A simple text wouldn't do," you explain.

She sighs and shakes her head, "Who's the boy? A classmate from Teiko?"

You nod, "Yeah, we were really good friends."

"Introduce him to us then--"

"NO!"

"I have a traumatized daughter with a boyfriend that I know nothing of? I can't trust him with you if I don't have a proper look at him! You've had so many terrible experiences with boys your age, it's only natural for your mom to be curious as well!"

Rolling your eyes at your mother's true intentions, you dial up Kuroko's phone number. As much as you didn't like it, she did have a point. "I'll text him then."

"Oh, but you would call Shuzo?"

"MOM!" you groan at her comment. You don't attempt to explain yourself in hopes of masking your embarrassment. You know that the instant Kuroko picks up you'll fumble with your words and make a fool out of yourself--so much so that he'd probably reconsider dating you!

Once you send him the text, he replies instantly with something that causes your cheeks to burn with happiness. "What did he say?"

"That he wants me to meet his mom too." You do a double-take after you respond and notice your mother hovering over your shoulder. "Mom, put that spatula down. You look like you're gonna murder me with that."

"Oh an afterschool date, huh?"

"Stop reading my texts, you're so nosy!"

"It's a mother's job to be in her daughter's life!"

You want to disagree with her but you recall the day Nijimura dragged you home and told your parents what Minato had said to you. They actually weren't even informed about what had happened previously when the boy harassed you in the alleyway. When they heard the full story, your mom was completely distraught. She thought she had failed as your mother in keeping you safe, your dad as well.

It took a few weeks for your parents to return to their comfortable selves. Of course, your curfews became earlier and you always had to tell them where you were going, text them your location, and inform them of who you were with. To be honest, you never found their over-protectiveness a bother during that time since having them informed made you feel safer.

It's the reason why you are plainly admitting to your mother that you now have a boyfriend. If you hid that from her, she would spiral into another depression. You wanted your parents to feel comfortable about the boy you are dating, so you found no qualms in arranging a meetup.

"You'll meet him in a few days, mom. So just be patient until then."

"Does Shuzo approve of him?"

"10000000000000%!" you exclaim as you beam at her. "Oh, I have to take my uniform to the cleaners then!"

"I have a new lipstick you might want to try out," your mother joins in on the excitement.
