[H.24] High School: Diary Entry Twenty-Four

[2 Months Later]

"Are you going on the school trip this year?" Yuuka asks once calculus ends.

You're in the midst of finishing up the notes and writing down your homework problems. When you finally finish, you gaze at her and notice her expectant optics. "I might."

"It'd be nice if you could. This is your last year, and you have never attended any before," she explains.

Your eyes wander around her face, and it's then you realize how she's been putting more effort to her appearance. Her nails are now manicured, there's actual foundation to hide any imperfections on her face. She also has a fresh coat of mascara and a sweet smelling perfume on. Her curls are more relaxed with a lot less frizz to them.

You ponder on her sudden interest in beautifying herself, and she spots your twisted expression. "Is there something the matter?"

"That's a new look."

Her cheeks instantly brighten with embarrassment. "I'm just trying out new things."

Nodding your head, you understand her skittish answer. You did the same with Kuroko whenever he spotted something new on you. "Makeup can be pretty fun. I have some coupons for this beauty store if you'd like to try it out."

Yuuka's tense expression softens. "You really are a sweet person, [Name]..."

"W-What?"

She giggles at your reaction and continues, "Behind your fears is a really spectacular girl. Most girls would just judge me or try to make this some sort of drama--"

"Did anyone say something negative to you?" you ask horrified.

"Some girls aren't responding so kindly to the new changes. Aya isn't taking it too well either... I just thought, 'well, that's girls for you, catty and mean-spirited'. But then there are people like you who are just really supportive of anyone."

Your mind returns to the times that when you felt the most along, caged with your self-deprecating thoughts and frightened mentality. You hid from the world in fear of its judgment and cruelty. You truly believed that no one could ever like you because of your personality; it was only your looks that gave you these superficial friendships. That thought process had you weak, fearful, broken. You recall those times when you didn't want to leave your house in fear of a bad day.

"There shouldn't be any reason to be mad at someone for trying." You smile at her as you overcome your past.

"Yeah," she hums. "So, you're going on the trip?"

Wanting to come out of your shell, you decide there on the spot. "Yes, I actually might this time around. I think Kuroko is going to the same city too."

"That's great!" Yuuka exclaims as she wraps her arms around you. She hugs you tightly and jumps at the wonderful news, unaware of the attention she draws from the students and Ikeda-sensei, who had just walked in to begin his class.

Aqua optics linger on your form as you blush profusely at Yuuka's affection. There isn't a sight more endearing to see... more enticing to see.
