"Why are you so pretty today?" Aya hums as she follows you with mild interest.

The last bell had already rung and you were in the midst of walking towards the school gate. Today you are to meet up with Kuroko for your first date. You tried your best to be ready for it within the limits of your school's policies. Thankfully, the all-girl academy you attend has lax rules in terms of makeup and nail polish. As long as you weren't ostentatious in your appearance, you were able to get away with most things.

In response, your lips are glossed to the fullest extent and your eye makeup bringing out the best of your features. Your mom had taken you yesterday to smooth and rejuvenate your hair; today it shined in a high ponytail with a ribbon tying it together. You did a few touch-ups before your last period until you were satisfied with your appearance.

"[Name]?"

"Oh!" You give Aya part of your attention as you continue walking. "I-- I have a date."

"A DATE?!" the girl shouts out in surprise. Most of the students surrounding you guys stop what they're doing to look at you guys. When they spot Aya, they write it off as the basketball club's usual antics and continue walking. "I didn't think you were capable of going on one."

You frown. "What?"

"That came out wrong, sorry. It's just that, we see you get asked out a lot and you've never accepted anyone's request... Wait! It has to be one of the babes from Teiko!" Aya gasps with certainty.

She hits the nail on the head, and you hush her. "Aya!"

"Damn, I knew it! Top-tier boys are your type, huh?" She waggles her brows and elbows you gently. "Who's the boy?"

"...Kuroko Tetsuya."

"Huh sounds familiar." She ponders for a moment, "Was he in the generation of miracles?"

You aren't sure yourself and shrug. "Sort of? He played with them before."

"Oh well, you need to introduce him to the team. We need to see whether or not he's worthy of our dearest manager!" She's laughing at her own joke, but you aren't quite sure how to respond. She notices this and continues speaking, "We are a close group, so when a boyfriend comes along, we like to make sure our girl is being treated right."

You send her a bright smile, "I see! Thanks, Aya."

"Sure, sure." She waves her hand as she begins to part ways with you. "I'm heading to the market, see you later!"

You wave as you watch her head in the direction of the markets. When she's out of sight, you rush over to the front of the train station where Kuroko should be waiting for you. However, you find no Kuroko in sight when you arrive and you decide to seat yourself in one of the benches.

'I should be there in 5 min.' reads his text when you question his whereabouts.

'Ok! Can't wait!'

You lock your phone as you begin to people-watch. Usually, a swarm of people had you sweating. But at the thought of your date with Kuroko, you find yourself voided of any fears that can displace your happiness.

"Hey cutie~ Waiting for someone?"

Your bliss crumbles into pieces as a slender man approaches you with a creepy smile. He's accompanied by another man who isn't making eye contact; instead, he's scoping out the area for other girls. They're both lecherous men, and you can't believe you tried to categorize Kuroko as such.

"I am. Please stop bothering me."

"We aren't bothering you, sweetie." You want to puke at his nickname for you. "Do you need some company as you wait?"

"She does not." A hand shoots out and grabs your wrist, pulling you out of the bench and away from their vicinity. You're pushed behind the person, and a comforting warmth spreads across your chest as you spot their sky blue hair.

"Kuroko," you greet him lowly.

"Sorry I am late. I had to feed Nigou before coming here." He then turns to the two boys, "Please excuse us."

They don't bother in keeping you both there and watch you two leave. You sigh with relief when they don't follow you, and you smile brightly at Kuroko. "Thank you."

"I'm sorry. Next time I will pick you up from your school." He doesn't look back at you as he pulls you through the crowd of people, but you know he's serious about his statement. There wasn't any way you could decline.

"Okay, next time I'll wait by the gates."

Your quick acceptance causes the boy to pause. He looks at you and his serious expression becomes replaced with a small smile. "You look pretty as always."

"O-Oh, thanks," your cheeks heat up at the compliment. You're beyond happy that he noticed the effort you put into your appearance. "I did it for our date."

He nods his head, "You don't have to do much to make me happy."

"Hehe, thanks." Every moment with him feels like a breath of fresh air. Your turmoils, your scars, your fears--they vaporize under his tender watch.

"Would you like to have ice cream?"

You perk up even more at the thought of ice cream and nod your head. That's all the confirmation he needs to take you to the nearest ice cream parlor, hand in hand.

The hole-in-the-wall store offers a limited selection of ice cream, but the prices are cheap and the flavors are all original recipes. You've never been to this one in particular; your friends usually went to the most popular or highly recommended places. The place does appear run-down, but when you take the first lick of the frozen treat, you know you would return again.

"It's so good!"

"Thank you, miss!" the owner says with a grin. "We might be small, but I'm proud of our work."

"You should be." You take another shot at the ice cream as you glance over at Kuroko. "O-Oh, I will pay for mine."

Too late. He's already coughed up the money for the two treats. "I'd prefer it if I paid this time around."

"Where did this money come from?" the cashier scans the room and it takes them a minute to register Kuroko. "WOAH!"

You giggle at their shout. It's the usual reaction whenever it came to Kuroko, and it has always been amusing to watch people react in that manner.

"You guys are on a date?" the owner asks, though he's certain of the answer.

"It's our first date," Kuroko replies.

"I see, you two have fun then!"

You bow your head and walk beside Kuroko as you two venture out into the streets once more. You spend the time talking about school and catching each other up on what has happened over the years. You don't let go of each other's hands, relishing in the warmth they provided.

When you arrive at the front of your house, you swallow in anticipation. "We're here."

Kuroko looks at your house as if it were a challenge. He isn't intimidated by it but there is some pressure he's facing.

You send him a look of concern. "Kuroko?"

His grip on your hand tightens. "I am ready. Let's meet your parents."
