It's been three months since you've gone out with Kuroko. Little by little, the boy has expanded your world to the point where you feel a little more comfortable with yourself. The world doesn't appear so bleak, so frightening, so cruel. Every moment with him leaves you breathless, and your constant elation is proof of that.
Currently celebrating your three-month anniversary, you both dine at a local pizza diner. The small candles that decorate the tables are your only source of illumination, giving it a romantic touch.
"Who told you about this place?" you hum. You've finished the last of your pizza slice, and there's a permanent smile of satisfaction on your face.
Kuroko reaches out and with the pad of his thumb he brushes off a crumb from the corner of your mouth. "Momoi did."
You nod your head, "She really helps us out a lot..."
Truth be told, the girl has been nothing but supportive of the two of you. Although her affection for Kuroko is as clear as day, she decided to put her emotions behind her to become your biggest cheerleader. You didn't expect her to succumb so easily, but then again, that girl didn't have a mean bone in her to give you a hard time.
"What time is it?" Kuroko snaps you out of your thoughts.
"D-Don't worry about my curfew," you gasp as Kuroko glances down at his watch. "My parents know it's our anniversary date and they trust you."
Your excuse still isn't enough to stop him from abiding by your parents' rules, and he waves his hand to grab the waiter's attention. It takes a while but finally one of them arrives. "A box for her and the check."
"Certainly."
Once the waiter rushes off, Kuroko's gaze lands on your dejected expression. "We can walk slowly to your house and spend more time together."
His suggestion is enough to return you to normal, and you nod eagerly. "It's a deal!"
Soon after, you place the rest of your meal into a box while Kuroko pays. The moment you two stand up, he takes your hand and leads you out of the restaurant. Fingers interlocked, you two walk quietly down the street.
Winter has left and now the air smells of spring. Flowers begin their bloom with the biting cold long gone. It feels nice against your skin, and there's no need to bundle up in heavy coats. Your attire shows just that: a simple t-shirt and matching skirt with a light cardigan, your feet donning a pair of wedges.
You're almost as tall of Kuroko with your shoes, but he's been growing a lot more since you started dating.
"In a week, you'll be a third-year. How do you feel about that?" Kuroko asks, his gentle tone causing your heart to beat faster.
"It's surreal that I'm almost finished with high school, but I'm excited to see what's in store for me," you reply with enthusiasm. "I'm really happy that I get to spend it with you too."
Kuroko merely smiles at your comment.
"I remember feeling so overwhelmed by everything, but with you by my side, I feel like I can conquer my third year."
"[Name], you're already strong without me," Kuroko sighs. "You've dealt with so much already."
"Yeah, but I ran away from all my problems..."
"How you deal with your fears and trauma is not up to anyone but you. It isn't anyone's place to judge you for running. You just need to go at your own pace."
He always knows what to say to you, and it instills a bout of confidence. Maybe... Maybe you really weren't as bad as you thought.
"Thank you."
"Of course," he says while tightening his hold on your hand.
When you see your house from the distance, you stop walking which forces Kuroko to pause as well. He sends you an inquisitive stare, and you muster up the courage to take the initiative.
"Um!... Thank you for tonight," you shyly begin. Kuroko nods his head and waits for you to continue. "I'm always so happy being with you."
He notices the blush on your cheeks and smiles softly. "Me too." You return the smile, but your body begins to twitch around with anticipation. "[Name]?"
Your heart is beating hard against your chest, and you can't help but look at your feet. "T-Tetsuya... Can you... Can you close your eyes for a second?"
Kuroko watches you intently; concern rumbles in his heart but he listens to you with no hesitation. Closing his eyes, he waits for you to say something embarrassing to him. Honestly, he doesn't have a clue as to what you were up to--
Soft, glossy lips press against his which causes his eyelids to flutter open. He sees you pulling away quickly with a deep blush adorning your cheeks. By the look on your face and the feel of your lips, he knows exactly what you did.
Stunned, he takes a moment to register that for the first time he's the one that needs to catch up. All these months he's been holding himself back for you because of your trauma. However, it appears that he was much too slow to your liking.
A chuckle rolls out his throat, and you send him a worried glance. "D-Did you not like it?"
He gazes at you tenderly, his cheeks pink with elation. "I did like it, but can we do it again?"
You can feel your heart malfunctioning, but you're more than happy to oblige. "O-Okay..."
His hand tightens once more around yours. He cranes his neck downwards, tilting his head and closing his eyes once more. You follow suit, and when his lips meet yours, a myriad of emotions surge out and take hold of your body.
You love him, you absolutely love this boy. He's your protector, your lover, and most of all, your friend.
As his lips move with uncertainty against yours, you realize that it's his first kiss too. Your lips curl into a smile, and you open your mouth a little more to accommodate him. Your other hand reaches out to grab his t-shirt and bring him closer to you. The heat of his body and feel of his lips are more than enough to make you dizzy.
Out of breath, Kuroko begins to depart from you with crimson cheeks. Although it feels like an eternity, it also feels as if it wasn't enough. Your face expresses just that and Kuroko notices instantly. He returns to place a few more butterfly kisses on your lips until he feels his self-restraint waning.
"[Name]," he forces out breathlessly.
He gazes deep into your eyes, and your heart flutters. Suddenly you sense a taste familiar in your mouth, and at the recognition of it, you laugh. "Hehe, it tastes like pizza!"
Upon seeing your reaction, Kuroko shows you one of his rare grins, and you feel as if your world is complete.
