Another long and busy day ensues. First, you have an early appointment for karate. You are getting close to the next belt, and the anticipation for such an honor has you dedicated to the task. The next course of action entails your managerial role for the basketball team as they have a practice match on campus. Throughout it, you devote your attention to your duties until it's time for the next event: a photo shoot for the most famous soda brand in Japan.
Your stoic yet endearing persona charms the crew, and the work is done swiftly. Time chips away at your energy until you're all but spent and hallow. You drag your legs down the streets after having left the last train.
Nijimura waits for you by the train entrance with a perplexed expression. Little has happened since your altercation with Marie, but the guilt you feel has multiplied. It's the reason why you have tried so hard to fill your day with activities, but your boyfriend's intuition is inescapable.
After a short fifteen minute walk in silence, Nijimura leads you back inside the apartment. His hand continues to hold yours until you need it to take off your shoes. It's as if he doesn't want to let go, but he acquiesces for your comfort.
"Have you eaten?"
"Yes." It's a lie. You haven't eaten a bite all day, just water and soda. You're too afraid of solids as the guilt has made you unable to hold your food. If you even think about the conversation you had with Marie, you disappear into a bathroom in seconds.
"I still have leftovers from dinner. You want some takoyaki?" he invites you, eyes narrowed.
"N-No, I had some food at the shoot," you chuckle nervously. "I'm gonna shower then sleep."
"[F.Name]." Your body halts at the call of your name and you know it's something serious. "Have you been vomiting?"
Your eyes widen, and you turn to face him in hopes of finding some answer on his expression. It's clear he knows and wants you to fess up. As much as you don't want to, you have questions of your own. "Who told you?"
"Answer the damn question."
You point a glare at him. "Yes, my nerves have been getting the best of me. I'll get over it soon."
"What nerves?"
"It's just a lot of stress and emotions," you sigh. "It will be fine."
"That's a serious issue. How could you have not told me about it?"
"Okay, I get it, but who told you?" You shake off his concern as you await for the expected name. Only one person witnessed your descent, and you can sense her betrayal.
"Marie."
Your face fills with anger. As much as you want to be angry at her, you know that you've proved to her just how much of a trainwreck your life has been . She had a right to be concerned, but now you wonder how much she spilled to him and exactly when this conversation took place.
"So you believe everything your ex-girlfriend tells you?" you quip but immediately regret the question.
"Well, obviously it wasn't lie."
"What else did she say?"
"She said--"
You don't know why you pressed him for more information. At the thought of Nijimura knowing what you had admitted, you feel a cold shake in your system.
"Nevermind, I want to shower," you whisper out as you run to the bathroom. You hear his pursuit of you, but you slam the door on his face. Your hands find purchase on the rim of the sink as you try to steel your resolve. You don't want to vomit again, not when your throat burns so much. Your teeth hurt as well, and there is a pain in your stomach you cannot shake.
