Your phone shows no sign of life, bringing you another wave of angst. As always, Kuroko appears far too involved in his third year of high school to give you his undivided attention. He doesn't message you instantly; he isn't the first to say good morning or good night. Any conversation through text dissipates after two or three texts as his attention drifts to something more pressing.
You can't say you blame him. Your third year was definitely the same way, and it made you appreciate how dedicated Kuroko was in making sure you felt loved at all times. It demanded a considerable amount of effort on his part, one that you do not take for granted.
Saying that you miss him is an understatement of epic proportions, but it's given you time to explore your own mind. However, once inflection ends, you return to missing him and it's a cycle that is hard to break.
"You're always looking at your phone." You glance up to see Hikari staring at you curiously. Beside her are Marie, Yuna, and Tomoko. A little bit more down the row are a few boys which you have yet to remember their names.
Ever since your first day, you have been surrounded by a large friend group. At the beginning, most gravitated towards you, interested in what you had to say, but after two weeks, Marie's outgoing personality won them all over. Although they include you in everything, you play a small role in their group while Marie shines at the center. It makes you realize how exactly she captured the attention of your friend despite his indifference to romance.
"[F.Name]? Tomoko pokes, bringing you back to realty.
"Eh? Oh! Yeah, I was waiting for my boyfriend to respond to a funny picture I saw." You pick up your phone to show them said picture, but none look. No, they all lost interest the moment you mentioned your boyfriend and your hand drops in defeat.
You recall the second day of school when you told them about Kuroko. Interest morphed into apathy when they saw a photo; you also heard a whisper of their disappointment as they thought they could score a hot boyfriend through your connections. Little did they know of Kuroko's rolodex of contacts...
"What's that pic you got?" Your spirit perks up and you glance over your shoulder to see Akari's interested stare. The girl has spoken to you on multiple occasions, and each time you felt a genuineness to her actions despite her being your opposite. You shuffle around in your chair and hand her your phone; she stares at the screen before sputtering out a roaring laugh. "THAT'S SO WEIRD!"
You crack a smile as she hands you your phone back. "It's really cute yet really funny, right?"
Akari is choking on her saliva as she continues her laughter which earns you both the gazes of everyone. Your discomfort begins and it's then you spot the odd stares your group sends.
Class begins and it's the final time you speak to her for the day.

The minute your first two classes end, the group travels to the courtyard by the main entrance. A handful of picnic tables litter the area with the streets of Tokyo serving as the backdrop. Thankfully, the university is situated near the suburbs where there is less congestion.
Marie picks a table farther away from gated entrance and everyone follows. You sit beside Tomoko and take out your snack. Before you can dig in, you see Akari leaving the class and she spots your gaze.
You notice the girl's desire to come over and sit with you, but then a tension brews over the group, fending her off. She sends you a small wave before leaving the campus, probably in search of some fast food.
"You shouldn't talk to her. I heard she has a boyfriend every other week," Hikari mentions the moment Akari is out of hearing range. "She's such a whore."
