Chapter 79

"If you get cold there are sheets in the closet," Spencer told Hanna as her friend tucked herself into bed.

"Thank you, Spencer," Hanna sniffed all of a sudden. Spencer was taken aback by Hanna's sudden rush of emotion. She turned away from the door to face Hanna.

"Don't thank me. I was a complete and utter bitch earlier," Spencer half-laughed, half-sighed. She took a seat on the Queen bed next to Hanna.

And suddenly, as if every dam had collapsed, Hanna started to bawl like a child who had lost a pet. Spencer patted her back, a look of sympathy and concern worn upon her features.

"No, I'm the one who should be apologizing. I'm the one who showed up in Wisconsin without a warning. I'm the one who walked out on Travis, not the other way around," Hanna sobbed. "I told him that he would never replace Caleb, and that Mike cared more about me than he did and-"

Spencer was taken aback by her sudden honesty. "This was about Mike?"

"Mike saved my life. Travis didn't do a damn thing to protect me. Mike loves me, I can tell. Travis was there for me, but he never actually loved me. And I was tired of being with someone who I didn't love and who didn't love me back. So I left and drove to the airport. And on impulse, I flew here."

Spencer covered her hand with her shirtsleeve, wiping the wets tears canvassing Hanna's face.

"You did nothing wrong. You know what you need, and you go out and find it. No matter what, that's how strong you are. And if you want to go after Mike, you will. Toby and I will help you with whatever you need to do that."

Hanna sniffed once before replying. "Thank you. And I forgive you for snapping earlier. I can't imagine what you're going through. With your sister and the baby, I bet you-"

"I'm managing," Spencer cut her off, not wanting to tie her own problems into this. She stood up and tucked the covers around her friend.

"Go to sleep. We can talk more in the morning. I love you."

"I love you too, Spence."

Spencer smiled and turned off the lights before closing the door on the sad blonde who desperately needed her.
