Spencer woke up half expecting Toby to have come back in the night, forgiving her. But of course, the bed was empty.

Toby laid in bed, staring at the white, popcorn ceiling. The guest room of Chris' house smelled of cinnamon glade and dust. Toby could tell it was rarely used.
Last night, he had called Emily, begging for advice.
"She needs her space," Emily had said. "Go back when she says you can."
"What if she doesn't say anything?" Toby asked worriedly.
"She loves you, Toby. Trust me, she's at home right now, making up the perfect 'take me back' speech. She'll ask you to come back."
Sure enough, at 9 that morning, Toby received a text from Spencer.
"I'm sorry. Please come back. I miss you."
"Thanks for letting me stay, Chris," Toby said as he walked out of the house.
"Anytime, Cavanaugh!" He responded.
Toby hopped in his truck- his new one- and drove to his house. Just seeing the green front door made him feel a little better.
Spencer ran out to meet him on the sidewalk.
"I'm so sorry," she mumbled into his chest as he pulled her into him.
"I am, too," he cooed, rubbing her back.
"Toby, we're going to California."
