Spencer watched, amused, as Hanna managed to fit another handful of popcorn into her mouth.
"Wait, shut up! This is the good part!" Aria squealed, pointing at the TV.
Spencer had seen the movie- Safe Haven- a thousand times before, but still had no idea what was going on. The entire time, her brain had been somewhere else. On her, putting on her wedding dress, walking down the aisle, reciting her vows, kissing her husband, the reception, the honeymoon. It was all she could think about.
She was so distracted that she didn't even notice when the movie had ended.
"Um, earth to Spencer!" Hanna yelled.
"What?" Spencer asked, jolting back to reality.
"Truth or dare!" Emily urged.
"Um, truth," Spencer answered. She had never been the one to choose a dare. She feared humility and it was simply easier to answer questions anyway.
"What do you plan on doing to Toby tomorrow night?" Hanna started. "Ya know, in-"
"Hanna!" The other three girls shouted in unison.
"What? I mean it's their wedding night! Surely they have something planned!" Hanna justified.
"Even if we did, it would be none of your business!" Spencer chastised before turning to Aria.
"Dare!" Aria blurted.
Spencer thought for a moment before settling on the perfect dare.
"Text Ezra telling him we just kissed. See how he reacts!"
"No problem," Aria smirked. "Hey honey," she recited as she typed. "Better tell Toby he probably isn't getting married tomorrow. And call the lawyers because I'm leaving you. For Spencer. Kissy face," she finished.
"It's perfect!" Spencer laughed. "Send it!"
A minute later, Arias phone chimed in reply.
"Nice try," she read. "I know you love me. Unless there's something I don't know."
"Don't question my sexuality!" Aria typed before they moved onto the next round.
After Spencer answered a question about her future including children, she turned to Hanna.
"Truth or dare?" She asked.
"Um," she hesitated. "I think it's time for a truth."
Spencer nervously glanced at Aria and Emily before engaging in a question they had been asking themselves all day.
"Hanna, are you, um, are," Spencer stuttered.
"Spit it out!"
"Are you pregnant?" Spencer finally spat.
"What? No!" Hanna screamed.
"Sorry, we just thought," Aria explained.
"You thought I looked fat and that I was some whore who slept with every guy I dated!"
"Hanna, you live with Travis! You have for the past two years!" Emily said.
"That doesn't mean anything," Hanna breathed.
"I'm sorry I asked, Han," Spencer whispered putting her hand on her blonde friends shoulder.
"That was always something I thought would happen with Caleb," she stammered.
Aria and Emily inched closer and enveloped Hanna in a group hug. After a minute, Spencer spoke up.
"I'm so glad you guys could make it out here. It's so nice being together again like this. And whatever Ali has up her sleeve, we'll face it together. After I come back."
An hour later, after the girls had fallen asleep, Spencer tip toed to the office and picked up a pen and paper to write her letter that Toby would read tomorrow morning.
Toby-
Today's the day. I always knew it would be you. From the first kiss. It's the truth. Thank you for everything. I couldn't imagine spending my life with anyone else. I didn't know it was possible to love someone this much, but I do. And I'm so glad it's you. Next time we speak, we will be married (or close if you count our vows). And then it's time for the honeymoon. ;)Spencer chuckled to herself, unsure of how to end the letter. After a moment, she decided.
Thank you for showing me what life is, I can't imagine where I'd be if I hadn't fallen in love with you.
She sealed the letter in a red envelope before returning to the living room. The last sleep she'd have as an unmarried woman.
