Spencer and Toby rushed to the hospital and found Hanna's room. Spencer was glad to see that she hadn't missed the birth of her niece/nephew.
She went to the side of the bed to hug her friend, who obviously wasn't in too much pain yet. Hanna explained that she had only been in labor for a few hours and her contractions weren't terribly strong yet. Her doctors had told her to expect stronger contractions within the hour and delivery shortly after that.
"Oh my god!" Hanna exclaimed abruptly.
"What? Did you get another contraction?" Spencer asked, worried.
"No! It's your birthday, Spence! I totally forgot! Happy birthday!"
Spencer laughed. Of course Hanna would change the subject so quickly, regardless of the fact she was in labor.
"Well thank you, Hanna. I'm glad I get to spend it with you," Spencer said, squeezing Hanna's shoulder.
"Ow!" Hanna wailed.
"Sorry, I didn't realize your shoulder hurt," Spencer said, confused.
"No, it was... a contraction... ugh! Mike! Get... the doctors... I think it's time!"
Spencer kissed Hanna on the head as she stood up. "I'll see you on the other side!"
She turned to her husband who wrapped an arm around her and the left as Hanna let out another string of obscenities. They found a seat in the waiting room.
"Imagine if this was us," Spencer said looking up at Toby.
"We'd be so good at this," Toby chuckled.
"Stop making me want to get pregnant!" she teased. In all seriousness, she couldn't wait until the day she was in this hospital giving birth to the life she had created with Toby. He had been so perfect during her first pregnancy and she knew he would make a great father.
"Maybe we could," she offered hopefully.
Toby shook his head. "Spence, you know I don't want kids. Not yet. We've talked about this and we aren't in the position to start a family."
Spencer pouted and leaned her head against his shoulder. "Maybe you're right. Maybe I'm just emotional."
"I am right every once in a while, aren't I?" Toby joked.
Spencer giggled, "No, I'm always right."
"Whatever you say, Spence."
They could hear Hanna's screams from her room, and they continued for the next hour with no progress. Finally, she was fully dilated and was moved to the delivery room. Spencer couldn't remember why only a short time ago she had wanted to have a baby, listening to Hanna over the past hour had been the best form of birth control.
At that moment, Mike entered the room, a layer of sweat coating his forehead. "He's here," he said with a smile.
Spencer's eyes lit up as she shot out of her seat and started in the direction of her friend's room.
Pushing open the door, she ever so softly walked in to see Hanna cradling her son in her arms.
"Wow, he's amazing, Han." Spencer observed the newborn, from his chubby face to his tiny fingers to his light coating of black hair on his head. Which was odd, considering both of his parents had light hair... She dismissed the thought, however, as Aria did have darker hair.
"Yeah, he really looks like his father. Brown eyes and everything," Hanna whispered.
"Doesn't Mike have blue eyes?" Spencer inquired.
"Isn't that what I said?"
"Um, yeah, I misheard. My bad." Something was amiss, and Spencer had a bad feeling about this child.
