Once their plane landed in Milwaukee, Spencer and Toby found their way to their car, practically falling inside.
"I am exhausted," Spencer breathed.
"The last few days have been anything but normal," Toby reminded her. Between the A encounter, her sister's death, and finding out that she was pregnant, Spencer had been through enough physical and emotional stress for lifetime.
"But now we can go home and wait eight months," Spencer smiled and kissed Toby on the cheek. She knew there was a possibility of miscarriage, but she tried to shun any thoughts of it. In the thirty or so hours she'd been aware of her baby's existence, she already loved it with her entire heart.
Slumped against the window, Ed Sheeran's "Shirtsleeves" playing softly on the radio, the city lights illuminating the night sky, Spencer felt as though everything had fallen into place. Sure, there were things to deal with; studying hard so she could graduate soon, mourning Melissa's death, and tolerating post wedding expenses and troubles, but she had Toby and their growing child, and that was enough.
A half hour later, Spencer had fallen asleep, leaving Toby to carry her inside.
"Welcome home, wife," he whispered. Within ten minutes, he had her changed into one of his shirts and tucked into bed. He stood in the bedroom for a few minutes, silently admiring her beauty.
"How did I get so lucky?" He asked himself, feeling like the luckiest man in the world.
