She was awoken by a small kiss the nose. Her eyes fluttered open to see Toby hovering above her.
"Hey," he whispered. "Didn't mean to wake you up."
"No it's fine," she said as she reached out to caress his face. "Four days," she added.
The girls arrived in two days. The plan was for them to stay in their respective hotels the first night, and the day after they would get fit for their dresses. Then they would come back to Spencer's place for the bachelorette "party". Spencer didn't want anything too flashy, just her and three friends having a sleepover just like old times. And on the morning of the wedding, she and Melissa would rendezvous to a salon for hair and makeup. And then they would arrive at the Lake Geneva Abbey, she would slip on her dress, and then...
In the midst of her thinking about the upcoming days, Toby had found his way to the kitchen.
"Smoothie, Spence?" He yelled into the bedroom.
"Please and thank you!" She responded, pushing herself up out if bed. She was clad in nothing but Toby's long sleeve shirt and underwear, but the heat in the house was on, so she wasn't cold.
She made her way into the kitchen, blocked by the ajar freezer door.
"Strawberry or Blueberry?" Toby asked holding up the bags.
"I can make them," she offered. "And strawberry obviously!"
"Okay, I'm going to go get dressed," Toby told her.
She took the bag from him and made her way to the counter. She added the yogurt, fruit, and milk to the blender and turned it on. She took the lid off to stir it with a spoon, so that the frozen fruit would circulate throughout the mixture and be fully blended.
All of a sudden, a huge strawberry flew out of the blender with an insane amount of force. It hit her square in the nose, causing a loud scream. She fumbled around to find the off button, as her vision was blocked by the thick liquid covering her eyes.
Toby came into the room.
"Oh my god, Spencer! Are you okay?" He asked, concerned, and he scrambled to find paper towel. He wiped the smoothie away from her eyes and she giggled.
"What was that?" He asked.
"Maybe you could find a more creative way to get rid of the rest of the smoothie on my face," she hinted. "Especially on my lips."
He knew what she was suggesting, so he leaned in to kiss her. She kissed back for a few seconds before taking off, leaving him with a messy kitchen and strawberry smoothie on his face.
"I'll get you back for this!" He yelled.
"Sure you will! You'll be at work all day, so I have some time to plot my next attack!" She cackled.
Spencer was on break from school, but Toby still had to work until the day before the wedding. The construction business he managed was putting up a group of houses along the lake and it was taking a while to plan them. Which meant hours of meetings and sketching. He had migrated from carpentry to architecture during college, and he used that to his advantage. That didn't mean he couldn't still make Spencer gifts on occasion.
"Guess what?" Spencer singsonged from office.
Toby entered the room, raising an eyebrow.
"I have enough credits that if I study hard when I go back in February, I could graduate this year! Which means I could open my office by August!" She said excitedly.
Everything was in order for her own therapy office. It was a few streets off of the main drag in a secluded but upscale strip mall. Her parents had helped her, but it was mostly her arranging. She was so excited to help people, and couldn't wait to graduate with her doctorates so she could become a certified therapist. And the fact that she could graduate a year ahead of schedule was extremely exciting. It was rare to get this sort of opportunity, but she had taken as many classes as she could- being the overachiever that she was.
"I'm so happy for you! So you take all your tests in May?" Toby asked.
"Yeah, I actually just got the testing schedule," she said, handing the schedule to Toby.
"Intense," he muttered. But he wasn't doubting that his bright fiancé could do it.
"Yeah, but just think," she started. "I'll be done with school, we'll be married, I think it would be a great time to start a family."
"I agree one hundred percent. Anything for you."
