The scent ruminating from the kitchen was almost enough for Spencer to untangle herself from her husband's arms and start eating Thanksgiving dinner early. Almost.
Remembering Hanna and Mike would be arriving in less than an hour, she pressed a kiss to Toby's sweaty forehead and forced herself out of bed. She checked on the turkey and stirred the gravy before going back to her closet to select an outfit.
She dressed in blue jeans and a white sweater, Toby in jeans and a green button down. She curled her hair and swept a light coat of mascara through her thick lashes and decided that she was ready.
The couple had been up since seven preparing Thanksgiving dinner for them and their two guests (unless it counted that Hanna was eating for two). They had seasoned the turkey, peeled potatoes, and sliced green beans for at least five hours before they succumbed to their urges and retreated to the bedroom for other activities. Now it was only a matter of minutes before their guests arrived and the dinner was to be devoured.
They arrived, cautiously walking up the icy driveway, pies in hand. Hanna burst through the door, her protruding stomach leading the way. Once she had ridded herself of her winter coat and shoes she turned to embrace her friend, also commenting on how good the food smelled. Mike helped Toby set the table and the group set to work preparing the food to be eaten.
A half hour later, when Spencer was halfway through her second glass of red wine, they took a seat at the wooden dining room table. Clasping hands, they agreed to partake in saying what they were thankful for.
Hanna went first. "I'm thankful I found Mike after everything he did for me and I'm glad we're happily married. And I'm beyond grateful for our amazing son. I can't wait to meet you." She smiled and looked at her husband.
"I'm thankful for my growing family and that we live so close to our friends and that they have prepared this great meal for us," Mike stated.
It's was Spencer's tune next. "I'm thankful for my amazing family, and not just the ones I'm related to. I'm thankful that I've seen Aria and Ezra expand their family, seen Emily and Paige unite theirs, and that I get to see you two and your growing family so often. I'm thankful that I'm married to the love of my life, and I'm thankful we were all fortunate enough to make it out of the A ordeal alive," she wiped a year from her eye, as she realized how lucky she was.
Toby squeezed her hand lovingly as he preparatory to speak. "I'm thankful for this dinner that my gorgeous wife prepared. I'm thankful for my friends who have showed me how to live with happiness every time we're together. I'm thankful for our daughter, who's watching us from heaven. We love you angel," he said, his voice cracking.
Spencer smiled at him, tears streaming out of her eyes as well.
"Shall we eat?" Hanna interrupted. "My bun in the oven is starved."
Everyone laughed, digging into the meal.
