Toby sat at the kitchen counter the next morning, slightly hung over. Even in her drunken state, Spencer had managed to tell him that Ali and her three newest recruits were back. He wouldn't be surprised if Jenna and Cece were helping her again. He hadn't seen or heard of them since they fled to Europe following Ali's "death".
Spencer skipped into the kitchen. He was astounded at how happy she was. Perhaps she had convinced herself that she had to happy. He was doing the same.
She took a seat on the adjacent barstool after pouring herself a mug of coffee.
"Hey, you alright?" She asked acknowledging his worried expression. "We don't need to worry. I'm going to the police tomorrow. They'll trace the texts and find them."
Deep inside, he doubted that would work.
"But," she sighed,"we have to wait nine more days."
Their wedding was just around the corner. Everything was in place but his feelings.
"Spence," he started.
"Yeah," she breathed, clutching his hand.
Here goes. He had to be absolutely sure.
"Are you sure you want to get married?" Wow, that sounded extremely blunt.
"What the hell?" She shot up out of her seat. "Are you seriously getting cold feet?"
"It's, just," he stuttered. "Everyday, I wake up and hope that today won't be the day."
"The day for what?" She growled, her arms crossed over her chest.
"The day that you realize you deserve so much better."
With this, her expression softened.
"I just don't know if I can be the husband you need. It sounds ridiculous, but it's how I feel. I love you, and I want you to be happy." He choked on the last part.
"Are you saying you don't think I love you?" She squealed as she took a step towards him. "I love you more than I've ever loved anything."
"But there's so much better for-"
"Stop," she whispered, taking his face in her hands. "You're being so irrational," she laughed.
"Are you sure?" He asked.
"If I wasn't, would I do this?"
With that, their lips connected. They could both feel the passion between them. He grabbed her thighs, lifting her onto the counter, shoving aside a mound of paperwork.
It seemed as though sparks danced between them. They stayed together for quite some time, furiously clawing at each other's bodies for leverage. They finally pulled apart, breathing as though they'd run a marathon. Kissing Spencer did that to him.
He chuckled to himself, forgetting why he was even so worried. Spencer was right, he was being irrational. They were obviously the only options for each other. She must have read his mind, because a large smile spread across her face.
"I thought so."
