The car ride to the airport was silent. Toby's mind was still reeling from the memory of that night.
Nothing he had done as a member of the A Team amounted to that. He hadn't killed anyone. But he killed Alison. He should have felt relieved. He had done everyone a favor. A was gone now. But guilt is a bitch. And so is karma.
Spencer's voice cut into his thoughts.
"Tobes," she muttered,"are you okay? You've been silent this whole time."
He kept his eyes on the road ahead of him, not wanting to answer. He knew that as soon as he brought it up, Spencer would become extremely worried as she always did.
"Just sad we have to leave, you know?" He lied.
"I know. It was a lot more fun than I thought it would be," she sighed, grasping his hand which was placed on her thigh.
"But guess what?" She chirped. "Ten days!"
Wow. Was it already that soon? Most people spent a year planning their wedding and the fact that they had accomplished everything in a month and a half astounded him. Well, he did have Spencer to help him, so maybe he wasn't as surprised.
"Yeah," he breathed, half happily and half worried. He still couldn't shake the feeling that she would back out. Or that he would back out. At least they were adults, he had a job and she was in med school. So they could support themselves, and were responsible enough to make the right choice. But he had the same feeling he used to have when A was about to strike. The feeling that something bad was going to happen and there wasn't anything he could do about.
They finally pulled into the airport parking lot and hopped out of the car. Spencer ran to Toby and wrapped her arms around his neck, placing a shirt kiss on his lips.
"What was that for?" He asked.
"I love you," she responded and burrowed her head into his shoulder.
And suddenly, he forgot what he was worried about.
