"Wait, you're kidding, right? I didn't even know you were seeing each other!" Spencer shrieked in disbelief. "Hanna this is a huge mistake!"
"Who are you to tell me what to do?" Hanna rebutted. "Last I checked, I am an adult, and I am fully capable of making my own decisions."
Spencer shook her head. "Hanna, you and Mike barely know each other. You can't just marry someone you don't know!"
"You're wrong" Hanna sighed. "After Caleb died, Mike came to live with me for a month. A lot happened. And he's been living with me for the past month, after I moved into the new house. So we do know each other."
She paused.
"I love him. Maybe more than I loved Caleb."

Later, after Hanna had left, Toby was left to his own thoughts as he waited for Spencer to return from the bathroom. How was it possible that Mike and Hanna had gotten what Toby and Spencer had it six years in only two months?
His thoughts were interrupted by the woman who had reappeared from the opposite end of the bedroom. Tonight she was clad in only a pair of gray boy shorts and a coral, lacy bra. The sight of her, although twenty weeks pregnant, still had the ability to make his heart leap into his throat.
And then it hit him. Given the chance, he would have proposed to her fresh out of high school. Unlike Mike and Hanna, Toby and Spencer hadn't clicked immediately. They had taken years to warm up to the thought of each other, and had fought tooth and nail to stay together. Things weren't easy, but somehow they had made it through.
Spencer must have sensed that he was thinking, as she sat down Indian style behind him, taking his hands in her own. The way she gazed down at him with so much contentment, so much love, he couldn't imagine anywhere else he would rather be.
"Pretty crazy, huh? How those two barely know each other, but they've already tied the knot," the sadness and remorse in her eyes hinted at something more than surprise.
Toby rubbed circles with his thumbs in her palms to reassure her. "If you think it took me six years to realize that you were the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with, then you are so sadly mistaken, dear. I've known for so long. I waited because I wanted you to make sure that this is what you wanted. Hell, I could've proposed to you that day you got me my truck."
She giggled in slight upon the memory, wiping her eyes which were clouded with tears.
"I love you. I always have and I always will. And I think this baby," he paused to place his hand on her stomach. "Is a pretty good indicator of that."
Toby placed a lingering kiss on her stomach, then to her forehead, and when she directed him to do so, on her lips. She pulled away for only a second to whisper,
"I love you."
