Jimin and Taehyung had left the hotel room in which they had met with their aunt, leaving behind in the still silent room Jaehyun with his mother.
Her eyes were still left at the door, as the image of Taehyung's face still lingered in her eyes. The way he stared at her in desperation for her to say that she was lying about everything she said, for her to deny the fact that had brought him fear, shock, and anger towards her.
Mrs.Jung couldn't help but feel hurt by his reaction because he was practically showcasing how much he hated the idea of her being his mother in a way even though she knew that it was not exactly that the fact that Taehyung was so stubbornly trying to deny but it was the fact that Jimin was not his biological brother.
It was normal for such news to not be accepted easily by him and she had expected that but as Jimin gathered the conversation to closure for the moment and bidding his goodbye, taking Taehyung along with him, Mrs. Jung couldn't help but feel the urge within her to protect him. A feeling that was natural for a mother and that was why she had it so difficult turning her head away from the direction of the exit since she had one more son in the room waiting to speak to her. Jaehyun.
She stole minutes out of fear of facing him and he had allowed her to do so since he had yet to find any words to say to her. But that was until a question popped in his mind which he desired to clarify. Everything she had told so far was shocking for him too even though he was aware that his feelings had no match to the ones his two cousins may have felt. Despite that, however, he didn't consider his emotions less valuable and his anger less important.
He had been lied to, he had a half-brother who considered him as a cousin for years, he too had a right to make questions and he was gonna do that but most importantly he would ask why did she lie?
"I overheard you speaking to your therapist and I went to meet them in order to clarify all this. I was sure if I were to just ask you, you wouldn't tell me the truth." He broke the heavy atmosphere, bringing Bitna's gaze to move from the door and face her youngest son.
"Jayhyun...I...I hope you know that all this doesn't change anything between us." She left him to witness her vulnerable gaze veiling over her features and approached him but Jaehyun took a step back, giving her to instantly understand that he was not gonna be swayed by that pleading and loving gaze.
"What I heard you saying was that Mr.Park was your lover and that Jimin was the son you gave to them. And I don't understand why did you lie to your therapist if the things you said tonight are the truth and TaeHyung is your son. Just tell me what the heck is going on?" Jaehyun spoke sternly as he wanted the truth and only the truth because knowing his mother he also knew that there must be a reason behind that.
"Son...well..." She exhaled, nervousness taking over her as she started looking around the room before she let her fingers pass through her hair once then left her eyes to lock with his again. " I found out that my therapist was not trustworthy and he was telling everything I ever told to her to your father...so...I decided to use that..." She continued making Jaehyung follow her frame with his orbs as she started pacing around the room.
"I never wanted your father to know of that affair, of course, I wouldn't, but I had already spoken to my therapist about that affair before I got to know that she was snitching on me and after I found out, because I had never gotten into detail about it and because Mr.Park was no longer alive...I lied."
"Why? What's the point of trying to stain a dead person's reputation?"He uttered in clear anger and annoyance towards his mother's actions.
"I held a lot of respect for Mr. Park and he indeed had saved my life back then but can't you see? All his fortune is left to his sons now. Jimin is not even his blood and Taehyung-"
"You wanted my father to think that Jimin is the child you had with another man so he could unleash his anger on him instead of Taehyung. You lied to cover up and protect the one who was your real son, since Mr. Park is dead, my father has no one to take his anger upon but Jimin. Am I right?" Jaehyun interrupted her words as he had connected the dots and he was feeling a certain apathy towards her at that instant.
"Son, please understand that this is for the best. Jimin is strong, he is capable, and has achieved so many things on his own. Can't you see that he is not the one that needs help? He will be fine on his own but Taehyung...Taehyung is the one who is fragile and-"
"Lies! You don't believe what you are saying, you are just trying to make yourself believe that what you are doing isn't horrible. The truth is only one and that is that you are putting Taehyung above Jimin simply because Jimin is not your son."
"And if it's so, what's wrong with that? A mother will always try to protect her child. I would do anything for your happiness and his too. What's wrong with that?!" Mrs. Jung raised her voice feeling her insides burning in unfairness under the hostile gaze of her younger son even though she was well aware why he would be upset and why anyone may find this a bit cruel of her but if she was to chose of course she had to chose Taehyung. If she had to save someone from the trouble that her husband was going to cause, that would be Taehyung. Despite how much she loved and cared about Jimin, he was just never gonna be at the level that Taehyung is in her heart.
"For my happiness...our happiness...you sure have some nerves to say that over and over again. I am sick and tired of hearing that phrase. So, much that sometimes I think that Hoseok hyung did the right thing by going missing." He left his bitter words to roll out of his tongue without hesitation even though he was well aware that the mentioning of his older brother would bring a wave of negative emotions to his mother.
However, he could not help but say them cause he really thought of those words and believed in them passionately at that moment. His older brother had gone missing for two years now and not even once Jaehyun had seen that fact as a positive thing yet every day he understood his reasons for leaving more and more. For the first time since then, he had seen his disappearance as a blessing for him but it was not the first time that he had had the urge to follow his lead. Even though his escape was not as easy as his brother's and the place from which he wanted to be absent was not their family only.
"Please, Jaehyun, please just keep quiet about this. Don't let Taehyung get involved with your father and I will do whatever you want me to. I promise." Mrs. Jung pleaded, her steps finally taking her close enough to her son to take hold of his arms as she looked at his eyes.
"Don't worry, I won't. I agree with you. If I have to take someone's side then I will take Taehyung's...he is the one I am half brothers with after all...Jimin is just...a no one." He uttered in a robotic manner, bringing an expression of relief at his mother's face just before she hugged him tight, whispering thankful words to him.
