A/N: A continuation of that storyline where the main five abandon DC after being confronted with their real COVID numbers. I'm not subtle so it was probably really obvious who did it.
It was Washington's fault really.
If he hadn't left those documents in an open drawer in his desk when Ontario came and asked about the key to the bathroom, Ontario would've never been inclined to look.
But he did.
And Ontario found a gold mine.
Pages upon pages of reports, all dating back from March of last year, of Florida, Texas, California, New York, and Louisiana's COVID numbers, the real COVID numbers, not the fake ones they submitted to DC from time to time.
And oh they were bad, worse than Massachusetts at the beginning of April 2020, Ontario could pinpoint the exact data they were submitting to DC in order to appear either 'normal' levels or 'lowering' levels and the rest they had shoved into a drawer hoping he'd never find them.
Ontario felt like a kid at Christmas.
Oh what DC say if he saw these numbers? After confirming with CDC that these documents were real, the medical doctor mentioned that DC confided to him that he knew the numbers were forged but he doubted DC would know it was this bad. Ontario could just imagine DC's face if he "accidentally" left the folder in his pile on his desk, how it'd fall from shock and betrayal and then, the angry confrontation that would ensue.
DC would have no choice but break up with the main five after this, and then Ontario could sweep in, show him what dating in his station was. The fed would feel stupid when he realize he spent all this time dating states when he could've been dating a fellow government like himself, he'd never talk to the main five again.
No.
Wait.
DC was too in love with the main five and had been putting up with their shenanigans for an entire year; it was entirely possible that they could weasel their way out of this one like they did all the scandals. There'd be tears and apologies, and DC would fall right back into their hands.
No.
Ontario had to make the main five do it themselves.
Ontario walked into Gov's office, finding it empty after watching the fed dash out to grab the last bit of coffee before having to send Washington out for me. The stupid idiot left his computer unlocked, so the province could easily draft an email to the main five saying that DC had to have a meeting with them this afternoon and please try to make it on time, Florida. Ontario got out of the office just as Gov came back, smiling wickedly to himself.
Sure this plan involved him going to Orlando, which he hated with a passion, but it'd all be worth it once he saw the looks on the main fives faces when presenting them with the data.
Ontario tried to cover up the stench of the local swamp drifting in through the yard as he walked up the front steps of the Statehouse, and walked in like he owned the place.
"The hell are you doing here?" Texas asked from the couch, watching a football game with Kentucky, Louisiana, and California.
"DC is sick and asked me to run the meeting." Ontario announced.
"Oh nice try." California said getting out of Texas's embrace and glaring at the province. "He sends Gov or IDC if he's sick."
"Do you want to call him? You know his health is fragile, but sure let's call DC and ask him to confirm he sent me." Ontario said immediately shutting the two states up. Ontario rolled his eyes, he really wished he showed the papers to DC and made him confront them, but this was the way it had to be done.
"C'mon, let's get this meeting over with." Ontario said turning and moving towards the meeting room. Louisiana went to get up but Kentucky gently grabbed his arm.
"I don't trust him, be careful." Kentucky whispered.
"Sha, don't worry about it." Louisiana said with a soft smile. "Florida will cause enough chaos to send him running to the mountains."
IDC closed the guest room behind her and sighed, looking up at Ontario who was sitting on the couch's armrest with a bottle of beer in hand.
"Thanks for helping get him home." IDC whispered.
"Hey, it's no problem." Ontario said softly, approaching the international government. "Did you get any leads?"
"Not yet, but Gov called the statehouse and I guess they've been looking for them all day." IDC said with a sigh.
"We'll find 'em IDC, I promise you." Ontario said, rubbing IDC's arm.
"I don't get it." IDC said distressed, falling into a love seat next to the couch. "He knew the numbers were mostly forged, it was a common argument between him and CDC. Why would those five care now? All they had to do was talk to him."
"Maybe the guilt finally got to them, the guilt that they were lying to the man they loved this entire time." Ontario suggested.
"But it doesn't make sense, I could see Louisiana doing this, maybe Texas, but California? New York? FLORIDA? They would've fought till their last breath." IDC pointed out, tears coming to her eyes.
"Hey, hey now it's okay. We'll find 'em." Ontario said softly, bringing the twin into his arms. As IDC sniffled into his shoulder, Ontario hid his smile in her hair. The plan was working out perfectly, better then he could've hoped. The faces of the main five when confronted with their numbers, and the guilt he sprinkled on them about lying to the man they loved, really made them up and leave DC.
("They didn't break up with you, no stop crying DeeDee." IDC commanded when they were back in his office, and trying to calm DC down. "Nowhere in this letter does it say they broke up with you, we'll find 'em and bring 'em back I promise you.)
Ontario smiled and rubbed IDC's back as he continued to comfort his future lover's twin, whispering reassurances and trying to fight the urge to dance happily. It'd be only a matter of time before DC's tears stop, and he saw Ontario was his one true love, not those meager states.
It felt nice to win.
