We were back at the house, and everyone was asleep. I silently crept up the ladder and out the house. I shushed Shroomoo when he saw me out of the house. I started wandering the woods looking for a perfect tree. I couldn't get out of my head how disappointed Phil sounded when he realized I could be flightless. I don't want to disappoint him not after everything he's done for me. There. A tall spruce tree that was easy to climb. I found a thick sturdy branch near the bottom and started climbing. My breath caught in my throat when I reached the top and realized how high up I was. There was a small but deep pond at the bottom so I wouldn't hit the forest floor. I held put my wings and jumped off the tree. I hastily flapped my wings in the same motion that Phil did earlier in the day. I started to plummet down to the small pond. It took a few seconds but eventually, the cold shock of water met my skin as I fell into the pond. I sighed as I climbed out dropping wet, and started climbing again. Once again I fell. And again. And again. I was covered in scratches and some bruises by the time I climbed up the tree again. When I was about to jump again I realized something. It's nearly sunrise. I would get caught by Phil and I would never hear the end of it if I didn't get back shortly. So, I did the first thing that came to my mind. I jumped. Except this time I didn't flap my wings, I just held them still as I glided through the wind. I saw Phil do this once or twice, but haven't tried it myself until now.
