Loki waited eagerly for the elevator doors to open so he could see the lab. He had been asking Emily about it since the moment they left their apartment. "Do we need a secret code to get in?" He asked, stepping out of the elevator the moment the doors opened.
"There's a code on the keypad, but sometimes Tony has it unlocked for us to just come in," Emily answered as she followed him out to the large entryway.
"Do you know the code?" Loki asked, knowing he would be very disappointed to not see the lab.
Emily chuckled. "Yes, I do," she answered as she quickly punched in the five number key on the keypad and opened the door. "In we go."
Loki sighed in relief when the door opened and he quickly walked into the lab. He quickly stopped and looked around at all of the cars and various half finished projects. "It's... incredible."
"He will be happy you said that," Emily praised, then looked around for Tony.
Tony walked in through the door a minute later. "Just let yourself in," he teased.
Emily turned to face Tony and rolled her eyes. "I thought you were down here."
"I was, but I had to step out for a minute." Tony shrugged. "This will be very simple... I can easily guess that Loki's employment was mostly due to his ability to go to the party?" He asked calmly.
"Not entirely," Emily said honestly. "That was a bonus, but when everyone is working, Loki gets bored at the house by himself."
Tony nodded. "I'm not overly happy about that, but I did see the work he's done and how fast he's learned. Does he want to remain employed?"
Emily looked over at Loki with a small smile. "Let him know what you want Loki," she told him.
Loki stayed quiet for a moment while he thought about it. "I want to keep my job, but only if I can learn and do more."
"What exactly do you want to learn to do?" Tony asked curiously.
"Everything... anything. I enjoy learning in general." Loki shrugged.
Tony turned to Emily. "I will leave it up to you to find what he truly wants to do and get him started on that career path. When he's ready, I will apprentice him with someone who will help him master that field." He told her.
Emily smiled. "Thank you Tony, truly. I think you would be amazed at Loki's learning capacity. He taught himself everything to help me in one afternoon."
"I'm well aware. I had Jarvis pull the footage from your office. I can't speak for others of his race, but he learns faster than any living person on this planet." Tony agreed, almost sounding impressed.
"Well, he might just make a good lab partner then," Emily said with a wide smirk on her face.
Tony shot Emily a glare. "Why in the hell would I want him for a lab partner?"
Emily shrugged and looked around the lab. "He might be able to help you with some of your projects. You never know."
"I see what you're trying to do, but we are never going to be buddies." Tony chuckled. He kept a very close eye on Loki as he wandered around to look at everything.
"Tony, give Loki a chance. Enough has happened to him in the past few months," Emily said. "I know things didn't work out between us, but I still care about you. If you keep doing everything on your own you're going to burn out."
Tony shook his head. "It's not about having help. It's his help that I don't want." He said truthfully.
Emily sighed and rolled her eyes. "Fine. I won't push it any longer. But I will see what catches his interest."
