Later that evening Emily sighed as she stood in front of the bathroom mirror and put down the brush she'd been using. "I think your mother likes me."
"How could she not like you?" Loki chuckled. He walked up behind Emily and wrapped his arms around her.
"I didn't know how to take her at first," Emily admitted. "I wasn't expecting to be questioned like that." She placed her hands over his and leaned back against his chest, watching his reflection in the mirror.
"I should have warned you, I'm sorry darling. Mother is very protective of us, especially when we enter into serious relationships." Loki explained.
"I get it, I do. I just wasn't prepared." Emily smiled at Loki in the reflection then turned and kissed his neck. " I was thinking of a shower before bed. I need to see if Mary is back first, but would you want to join me?"
"I would love to join you. I will pick out some night clothes for us while you check on her." Loki replied.
Emily turned in his arms and pecked Loki's lips. "I'll be back shortly," she murmured, then extracted herself from his grip and left the bedroom and walked into the living room.
She saw Mary messing around in the kitchen. "Hey," Emily greeted. "Did you have a nice date?"
Mary blushed but turned to face Emily. "It was alright." She mumbled.
"Just alright?" Emily asked. "What did you guys do?"
"We... um... we went to dinner then we went dancing." Mary answered. "I never thought he would be one for dancing, but he's really good."
Emily smiled as she made her way to sit on the barstool at the kitchen island. "It sounds like you two are really hitting it off."
"I think he just wants someone to talk to other than his team." Mary said, blushing a deeper shade of red. "He's so old fashioned."
"That's not a bad thing. There are not many men like Steve left in this world," Emily said softly.
"I wasn't saying it's a bad thing. I just didn't realize how old fashioned he was. It's actually kind of nice." Mary admitted.
"Well, I'm glad things are going well for you two." Emily stood and walked around the kitchen island to grab a couple of wine glasses then a bottle of blackberry wine. "I got to meet Loki and Thor's mother today."
Mary put her cleaning rag away and sat at the bar. "What was that like?" She asked, eager to hear everything.
"She's really sweet, but very protective of those two boys. I don't blame her for being that way though. It's just her being a mom," Emily answered.
"What does she think of you and Loki being together?" Mary asked curiously.
"She's happy to see both of us happy. She asked me a lot of questions, but I didn't mind that too much."
"That's good. I didn't know how it would go. Loki has said before that his race doesn't always think highly of ours." Mary admitted.
Emily nodded as she placed the glasses and bottle on the counter. "I've heard that too. I think that comes more from their dad than it does their mom."
"That would make sense. Odin is their father, right?" Mary asked curiously.
"Yeah. I think I did a project on him for school once, but that's been years ago," Emily replied.
"I remember learning some basics in school as well. Loki has also told me little bits during the few times we've talked. He always refers to his mother as mother, but I have never heard him say 'father'." Mary told Emily.
