Frigga wrapped her arms around Emily and held her close, feeling hurt, confused, and angry with her son. "I'm sure he will be back once he's had a chance to cool down and think it over." She said softly.
Emily shook her head before turning to hide her face against Frigga's shoulder. She couldn't speak. Loki had just thrown everything away because of what Frigga had said. Their relationship, their closeness, the pending marriage... it was just... gone.
"It's going to be alright sweetie, I promise." Frigga said, gently rubbing Emily's back to comfort her.
They sat there for quite some time before Frigga said she had to go back home. Emily wiped her eyes and nodded before slowly getting off the couch. "I should go back to the condo... get some sleep. Because I don't have an appetite for dinner."
"I'm going to have Heimdall track Loki so I can go talk to him in a few days. I'm so sorry he reacted so badly. I do know that my son loves you more than anything." Frigga said truthfully.
"I'm not so sure about that anymore," Emily replied quietly. "If he really loved me, he wouldn't have left like he did." She gave her the tiniest of smiles. "Thank you for coming to talk with me today. I hope we can keep in touch."
"I don't think he left in that sense. I think he just needs time to cool down. He does love you." Frigga promised Emily. "We will keep in touch. No matter what happens, you will always be considered part of our family."
"Thank you, Frigga." Emily looked at the older woman sadly before turning and leaving the conference room, knowing that she would return to Asgard.
When Emily walked into the condo, it was dark. The clock on the microwave in the kitchen read just before midnight, making Emily sigh. She got out a bottle of wine from the fridge and poured herself a glass before she leaned against the counter, feeling tears roll down her cheeks again.
Mary walked into the kitchen, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. "What happened? When you didn't come back, I told Jarvis to tell me as soon as you were back." She said, obviously worried. When she saw that Emily was in tears, she immediately wrapped her arms around her best friend. "I'm so sorry."
"He's gone," Emily sniffled. She buried her head into Mary's shoulder to muffle her sobs.
"I'm so sorry Em." Mary said, holding Emily close. She knew there was nothing she could say that would help right now, so she held her friend and tried to give what comfort she could.
Emily pulled away before long and wiped at her eyes, but tears kept coming. She looked towards her bedroom but couldn't even take a step towards it. "You were right." Numbly, she walked over to the couch and laid on it.
Mary followed Emily and sat on the edge of the couch. "Come on. I'll ask Steve to sleep out here so you can bunk with me tonight. You don't need to be alone."
She sniffled and shook her head. "You need to be with Steve. I'll... I don't think I'll get much sleep tonight."
"No, I need to be with you tonight. If you don't want to go in there, we can stay out here. I'll get your best pajamas, ice cream, we'll watch a movie, and curse the male race." Mary told Emily.
Emily looked across the living room, suddenly being met with bright grey blue eyes as James stared back at her silently while lying on his pallet. "If you stay out here Steve will come looking for you," she murmured.
"If he does, I'll tell him that I'm staying out here with you for now." Mary shrugged.
With a sigh, Emily relented and let Mary sit on the couch, making her have to curl her legs so her friend could sit down. Her eyes felt heavy and raw from crying. How could I have been so stupid?
