Emily woke the next morning in the same position she fell asleep in, though she was instantly comforted by the smell of pine and earth, which made her snuggle against him. "Mmm Loki," she murmured as a relaxed smile came to her face.
"You know this creates a lot of questions, right?" Mary asked from the other side of the couch where she sat with a plate of waffles. She watched Emily's eyes suddenly open wide as she stared at her, though she made no move to get up from Loki's lap.
"Loki was comforting me," Emily murmured as she felt him tighten his grip on her.
"Ah, right." Mary chuckled, barely glancing up from her food. "Was Stark being an ass again?"
At the mention of Tony, Emily's eyes watered. "He cheated on me," she growled, "We're done."
Mary looked up from her plate and gave Emily a look of shock and disbelief. "Oh my god Em! I'm so sorry!" She said. "You've been so good to him, what the hell is his problem?" She rhetorically asked.
Emily shrugged, feeling like she could start crying all over again. "Loki's been comforting me since I came back."
"We can move Loki back to the old apartment if you don't want to stay in the tower anymore. You don't have to stay here and deal with Stark's shit every day, not after this." Mary said, truly pissed at Tony.
"I'll think about it. But it doesn't sound like a bad idea. Can all of us fit at the apartment?" Emily asked.
"It would be a little cramped, but I can take the couch and Loki can use my room," Mary suggested.
"I would hate for you to abandon your room," Emily mumbled.
"I only have the two rooms and there's no way I can afford to move us to a three bedroom place in that complex," Mary said sadly.
Emily ran thoughts through her head as she began to play with the fabric of Loki's shirt while he slept. "We will make it work, I'm sure. If that's what we do that is."
Mary nodded. "Just let me know. I can try to find a second job if we do need a three bedroom place." She promised.
"There's no need for that. I have a lot of money saved up," Emily assured. "Tony had been paying my rent at the apartment, but I don't know if he still will."
"Oh... I didn't know that... well, I still don't want the money. I will figure it out." Mary said, as she looked back down at her half eaten food.
"He did it because I'm his employee, nothing more. That's way before we ever got together," Emily stated.
"It's not that... nevermind." Mary replied and shook her head. "I'll need to change Loki's bandages today, can you make sure he will be alright with that?"
Emily glanced up to the still sleeping Loki and smiled. "He shouldn't mind."
"I still don't want to anger him, not at the rate he's recovering now." Mary admitted. "He was trying to figure out how to work the TV earlier, when I woke up."
"Do you think he's faking then?" Emily asked as she watched him. "He looks fast asleep."
"Oh no, that's not what I meant. I meant that he's learning really fast. He was almost able to set the DVD up by himself, it was only one step that he missed." Mary clarified.
Emily grinned. "He's a very quick study. I think he'll be reading and writing English in days."
"He doesn't quite understand the numbers on the remote, but he has learned which ones to push just by watching us. It was quite impressive." Mary admitted.
