Loki woke up earlier than normal the next morning. He looked around for the source of the sound that had woken him and found it was the vibrating of Emily's phone. "Darling?" He asked, giving her a gentle shake. "Someone is adamantly trying to call you."
Emily grumbled as she rolled over in the bed and grabbed her phone to answer the call all without opening her eyes. "Hello?" She grumbled.
"Em? I...I know it's early, but can you come down to the med ward? Please?" Mary asked, sounding like she had already been crying.
"Of course. I'll be down shortly, let me get dressed." Emily hung up her phone, suddenly feeling wide awake. She climbed out of bed and got a pair of sweats from the dresser before putting on house shoes. "I'll be back Loki. Mary asked for my help in the med ward. Some assignment Stark asked her for."
"This early in the morning?" Loki sleepily asked. "Do you mind if I go back to sleep?" He asked her.
"Go ahead and sleep baby. I know you stayed up reading." Emily walked around the bed and bent down to kiss him gently. "I won't be gone long."
Loki returned Emily's kiss, then rolled over in bed to go back to sleep. "Call if you need me." He mumbled before dozing off.
Emily left the apartment and got down to the med lab in record time. She used her thumbprint to get in the door only to find Mary sitting on one of the exam tables with tears in her eyes. "Mar?"
Mary looked up at Emily. "It... it came back positive. I'm waiting on the blood test results now, to make sure it wasn't a false positive." She said which brought on a fresh wave of tears. "I don't know what to do."
"Awe, Mary." Emily walked up to her and wrapped her arms tightening around her best friend. "You need to talk to Steve," she said softly. "I know you have a lot going through your mind, but to me, this is a happy thing. He needs to know."
Mary nodded while clinging to Emily. "I'm going to. He has the right to know. I just need a few days to wrap my mind around this."
Emily nodded and kissed her head. "Please don't do anything rash. We'll get you an appointment and I'll go with you. We might even be able to hear a heartbeat."
"I'm not going to do anything at all right now. Whatever we decide, it needs to be Steve's choice equally. I just need to be in a better place mentally when I talk to him." Mary explained.
"Do you want me to make a doctor's visit?" she asked. "It might help."
Mary shook her head. "I'll make one here before I go, if the blood test is positive."
"Okay. Just let me know when it is, if you want me to go, unless you want Steve to go with you, which is fine." Emily pulled back and smiled at Mary just as a nearby timer went off.
"If he doesn't want to, I'll have you come with me." Mary said softly. She looked over at the monitor, which now displayed a notification under the results tab of her digital file. "I can't look. I feel sick just by the thought."
Emily turned and clicked on the results tab, reading it quickly. "I know that you're nervous and I know it's a shock. But you'll be a great mom, Mary."
"I can't believe this is happening." Mary cried, burying her face in her hands. "I don't know if I can even go face him right now."
"Mary, honey you need to breathe or you're going to have a panic attack," Emily soothed. "If you get any worse, I'm calling Bruce."
"I'm... I'm trying." Mary said, though she was struggling to calm herself. "So dizzy." She mumbled, very close to the panic attack.
