Chapter 38

Gabby: We're losing h.................

Gabby: We're losing him!
Brett: Erin's the priority, she's pregnant. The other ambulance can take Yates.
Gabby: Okay, Jackson take him to Chicago med.
Brett: Erin and Leo are ready for transport let's go!
Liv: I'll call Jay and tell him to head to med.

Gabby and Brett left in the first ambulance with Erin and Leo and headed to med. While in route Gabby radioed ahead to let them know that they were bringing in 2 of their own. The second ambulance just so happen to be taking its precious time.

Will: What do we have?
Gabby: Leonardo Halstead, Minor smoke inhalation, and was choked with a rope.
Will: Dr. Choi take Leo.
Brett: Erin Lindsay unconscious but responsive, major smoke inhalation and there's a stab wound on her right side. We have her on fluid and high flowing O2. Baby heart has been decreasing over the last 10 minutes, and Erin's blood pressure has been decreasing. We dressed the wound but she's still bleeding.
Will: Nat and Crockett I need you to help Erin.
Natalie: We got her, I think they said Yates is behind her.
Jackson: Gregory Yates 2 gunshot wounds to the shoulder and 1 gunshot wound to the upper right chest, when the victim was found he was unconscious and unresponsive. He did take on major smoke inhalation. In route he did crash twice and his current blood pressure is low.
Maggie: Will and April take him.
Will: Maggie...
Goodwin: Will you have no choice!
Will: Alright, just give me updates on Erin and Leo.

Will went into the room with Yates and quickly analyzed over his wounds before deciding which wounds were more threatening. The wound in his chest was more dangerous. Will covered the wound and sent him upstairs to the emergency surgical floor. Leo was still being treated down in the E.R m for minor smoke inhalation. With some oxygen and a few scans of his neck he should be perfectly fine.

Natalie: Erin will definitely need a scan, I did an ultrasound and there's some bleeding.
Crockett: We gotta keep her on high flowing oxygen so her lungs can start to heal. Let's get the scans also.

As the nurses came to roll Erin up to imaging, Jay and the teamed also walked in. Nadia was with them, she was perfectly fine, Yates figured Erin and the team would assume that she would be the target but it was really Erin all along. Leo would be collateral damage if anything. After Leo got the all clear, Dr. Choi left him sitting in the treatment room while he went to go grab Jay.

Dr. Choi: Hey Jay, I got Leo. He's doing fine I treated him for minor smoke inhalation and a little bruising around the neck. Natalie and Crockett are with Erin, I'll go get an update for you. You can go sit with Leo, he's asking for you.
Jay: Thank you!
Dr.Choi: I'll be back.

Leo: Daddyyy...
Jay: Hey Bud, are you okay?
Leo: I'm okay now, do you know how mom is doing?
Jay: Not yet, we'll get an update in a little bit.
Leo: Is Aunty Nadia okay?
Jay: She doing good, she was asking about you. Did he hurt you?
Leo: He.. He put a rope around my neck. He almost choked me until mommy saved me, but then the floor broke and we fell. I kept call her name but she wasn't talking to me There was so much blood daddy...
Jay: Mommy is very strong, she going to be okay.

Natalie: After further scans, it looks like he stabbed and tore through her peritoneal. That will need to be surgically repaired.
Crockett: Do you wanna go tell Jay and the team or should I?
Natalie: I'll go, it'll be easier coming from me.

Jay: What's the update Nat? How's Er doing?
Natalie: She suffered a stab wound that tore through the peritoneal, and a lot of smoke inhalation to her lungs. We're taking her up to surgery to repair the stab wound, and hope for the best. We monitoring the baby really closely, when she came in baby's heart rate was decreasing so we're monitoring that really closely.
Jay: What are the risk for the baby?
Natalie: I'll be honest, there's a high chance we might have to deliver her early.
Jay: What's her survival chances?
Natalie: 50/50, but she's a Lindsay/Halstead. She's already a strong little girl. Im going to get back to Er and I'll send updates throughout the surgery!
Jay: Thanks Nat, I appreciate that! I'll tell the team.

After Jay received his update, he went to inform the team. While Will came out came and he also had an update on Yates.

Will: Yates made it through surgery, now we just have watch out for any complications. How's Er and Leo?
Jay: Leo's fine, Erin is headed up to surgery now. It's crazy how that bastard tries to kill my family and he's perfectly fine, but my daughter and her mother are fighting for their lives.
Will: Erin is strong she'll get through this...

After several hours in surgery, Erin and baby Halstead pulled through. The team was able to successfully repair the damaged wound. Erin lungs was still in really bad condition, so Crockett make the choice to put her on the vent, he said it would give her the best fighting chance. So Erin was now laying in a medically induced a coma on a ventilator. She could still hear, she still had brain function. Everything was good, her lungs just needed extra time. Since the ventilator was helping tremendously, the baby heart was also improving..

Yates also had improved, but was released into the custody of SVU. They transferred him back to prison in New York.

A week later..

Erin was still on the ventilator, her lungs had only improved by 25 percent. The baby was still doing good. Right now it's just a waiting game, the team was taking turns sitting in the room talking to Erin so she doesn't feel alone. At night time they switch, so at least someone could be here if there was an update.

Another week goes by......

Natalie: Tell Crockett to call OB we're going to have to deliver the baby, her heart rate and O2 rate is too low. If she wants any chance of survival she has to come out.
Will: Jay's in the waiting room I'll go tell him!

Will: Jay..
Jay: Will, what's wrong?
Will: Baby H heart rate and oxygen rate started decreasing....
Jay: What does that mean?
Will: Nat is about to deliver your daughter via C-section.
Jay: it's still early will, she's only 27 weeks old..
Will: At this stage her lungs are developed, so she should be okay, That little girl has Erins DNA. Now are you ready to meet your daughter!!!
Jay: Hell yea!! I just hate that Leo is going to miss this.
Will: I don't think it's a good idea for him to still see Er sleep. Now come on I have to get you gowned and prepped.

Before Will helped Jay put on his gown, he sent off a text to the team letting them know what was happening. Will grabbed the pants and a gown, quickly securing the strings on the back on the gown. Then he placed both booties on each foot, and lastly he place a mask on jay and then ushered him into the delivery room.

Natalie: You ready to meet your baby girl?
Jay: You have no idea, all three of us have been so excited especially since finding out she was a little princess.
Natalie: I bet, Leo was really excited!
Jay: Yea he really was, he made a poem for her. Actually he doesn't know, hell Er doesn't know I got it tattooed on my side.
Will: That must be one really good poem.
Jay: It is, he wrote

Dear little sister,
I want you to know that no matter what we go through; I'm always be here. I'll always be your built in best friend that you can run to whenever you need to. So keep that in mind when you want a friend, especially when you feel alone. I will always be there to encourage and push you to be better. I will always be there to protect you like mommy and daddy protects me. I love you so much and I can't wait to me.

Natalie: Okay that was amazing.
Will: Leo will be an amazing big brother!
OB: Okay we are making our final cut, and we will take the baby out, just remember she will be really small. That's normal since she's considered a premie.
Jay: okay!
OB: 3..2..1. Welcome to the world Baby Halstead! Would you like to cut the cord dad?
Jay: Uh.. yes!!! How come she's not cr...
BH: waaa....waaaa.waaa.....waaa
OB: Nurse, you can take her now.
Nurse: Baby Halstead weighing in at 2lbs and 14.4 inches. Clear breathe sounds In both lungs. We're gonna head up to the NICU, and get the baby cleaned and everything else we need then we will let you know when we're done.
OB: we're gonna finish closing Erin up and then bring her back to her room.
Jay: Thank you!
Will: Whats her name?
Jay: Me and Erin hadn't decided yet.
Will: Baby H it is, she tiny but already feisty!
Jay: She gets that from her mom....
