Kai's eyes widened as he realized that I must've heard what he whispered to me when he thought I was still asleep.

"W-What do you mean?"

I sat down next to him and held his hand. "I know you know what I mean."

He gulped. "It... It was a mistake. Just ignore it—"

"I can't just ignore it, Kai." I was still holding his hand. I was surprised he didn't try to break free. "Did you mean it? When you said—"

Kai removed my hand from his and stood up. "No. I didn't mean it. I was dreaming, that's all. I don't... I don't love you like that."

Those last words were enough to crush my heart. I felt the hot sting of tears forming in my eyes.

It didn't make any sense. Why did I feel this way?

"Right..." I got up and laughed, even if I wanted to cry. "Why would you?" I turned around and started walking away from Kai.
