A/N: These are just my personal opinions on these characters, they are opinion not fact, and I am not trying to impose them on anyone else.

Stefan Salvatore: He really has duality, this man. He has the ability to be a sweet little bean who's so selfless and pure and then turn around and be a charismatic smartass who is driven and selfish and I am living for it. It made me really sad, his death. I've never in my life sobbed hysterically over a show until the last ten minutes of the very last episode. Definitely 10000/10 best character.

Damon Salvatore: It has recently come to my attention that some people don't like him. For what reasons, I don't know. While I respect the opinion, I love him. He was probably the character that made me want to keep watching, as his charisma and humor was up-front all the time whereas with the others it took time to appreciate their personalities. He also had a really detailed and quality character development.

Giuseppe Salvatore: He was a dick. I didn't like him. End of discussion.

Lily Salvatore: I feel like her existence in the show felt forced. Damon kind of had the right idea when he said goodbye to her for the last time. I know she had good intentions but she ended up being a crap mother, saying 'I couldn't find you again because it was too hard'. It's one thing to leave your child's life at birth but another to just flat out abandon them in the middle of their childhood.

Elena Gilbert: This is a character I can talk a lot about. I already gave my rant about the effect she had on Damon in the ships rants chapter, so I want to talk about her character here. I feel like she gets a lot of undeserved hate, like how people say she's a crybaby. I believe she has every right to be sad and depressed. She loses her adoptive parents, birth parents, aunt, surrogate dad, brother who's technically her cousin, best friend, etc. Almost every person she is close to has died either temporarily or permanently, so I don't think she's a crybaby.

Next being that she's selfish. Even as a vampire, Elena is quite a vulnerable character and a lot of things happen that she didn't ask for and are out of her control. Most of the people that suffered for her did it voluntarily as well, she never asks them to die for her and actually protests to the idea. It's just annoying that it never shows. Even after friend upon family member upon villain they make a deal with risk their life to save her, she herself is never sacrificed.

She may not be selfish in my opinion, but I do think she is self-centered. She ha the annoying habit of thinking that everything revolves around her. She straight up told Stefan, "look at you, your whole world revolves around me." (Liz told her that it was about her one time and she took that way too seriously lmao) She has done some low things, like when Sheriff Forbes died and instead of being there for her best friend she's kissing Damon. I get that she just got back her memories of him and that it's a big thing, but she's ignoring everyone else's problems, and I think her constant grief does that. She's so consumed by her own sadness that she doesn't really think about anyone else's problems. Elena is human and does make mistakes. I think I just don't love her because there isn't anything about her that stands out, so I don't understand why all the characters love her so much.

(I understand this is a very controversial topic within the TVD fandom so please don't attack me on this. This is just my personal analysis and there are probably points I've missed- especially since I've only watched through once. I would like to understand peoples' differing views, but in a respectful and mature environment.)

Jeremy Gilbert: A pretty underrated character if I do say so myself. Not that he had a major relevance to the storyline, but he was pretty funny sometimes despite being a little annoying and having cheated on Bonnie with a freaking ghost. That, I did hate. But other than that I really like him.
