Ships rants (TVD)

A/N: This is just going to be me giving my opinion on all (or most) of the TVD ships. BTW I don't know all of the ship names. These are just my personal opinions and observations.

Delena (Damon Salvatore + Elena Gilbert): 

I'll probably be writing the most about this one because I have a lot to say. When the show started I absolutely loved them even though I was rooting for Stelena, but now that I've watched the whole show I have a different view. I've noticed that Elena, whether she knew it or not, has had a negative impact on Damon's self-view. 

Before meeting Elena, he was confident and loved himself and didn't care if people hated him. But then he fell in love with Elena, who wasn't afraid to tell him that she didn't like him, saw him as bad and selfish, etc. But he loves her so much that he actually takes those insults seriously and changes himself. After a while of him devoting his life to her and giving her what she wants even if it comes at his expense, she falls in love back and they date. This is giving Damon the impression that if he just gives Elena as much as he is, she will love him. This became the foundation of their relationship: Damon dedicates his life to making Elena happy and Elena gives him self-worth.

When she "died", Damon fell apart, thinking that he could not be a good person without her to the point where he (I don't know how else to say it) committed temporary suicide until she wakes up. He fully relies on Elena to make him let himself live. At least he liked himself and accepted his flaws pre-Elena. I'm not saying that Elena did this on purpose or claiming to know how she should have handled it, I'm just saying that how it happened was not good for Damon.

I will admit though, Elena did help Damon realize the importance of his other relationships. She did help him become a better person, but that came at the expense of his self-love and independence. 

Stelena (Stefan Salvatore + Elena Gilbert): 

In the beginning I was in love with them. I really do think that Stefan was what Elena needed at the time- she needed someone to be there for her and make her feel safe, and he provided that. But after watching the whole show, and watching them break up, Elena didn't deserve Stefan beyond making her feel safe and loved. I do think it would have been interesting if they had ended up together, but I feel like he would have ended up giving her too much of him. 

I know Elena doesn't mean to and that being a doppelgänger keeps her involved in some supernatural drama that she can't escape, but somehow everyone on the show manages to sacrifice something for her, notably Stefan. I do think it was good that he finally realized near the end how Elena was the root of all of their problems. 

Bamon (Bonnie Bennett + Damon Salvatore): 

I understand a lot of people ship them romantically, and I respect that, but I personally only see them as best friends. I looked it up and it said Bonnie and Damon did date in the books, and making them best friends was the writer's way of doing that justice (I don't know the specifics, but it was something about Kat Graham and Ian Somerhalder not having on-screen tension or something). I think their friendship is cute though, even if it's just them sassing each other. 

Steroline (Stefan Salvatore + Caroline Forbes): 

Remembering how Stefan helped Caroline get used to vampire life, I think Steroline is adorable, especially when they were first crushing on each other. After all, it did cause the legendary 'Damon voicing Miss Cuddles telling Stefan he should tell Caroline he likes her and Alaric saying "See Stefan, even the bear knew,"' scene. (One of my all-time favorite moments). It made me so sad that they had to sacrifice their wedding day to be the bait for Katherine, and that they were only married for like a day.
