A/N: This is not a songfic, however I got the inspiration from the song Don't Take the Girl by Tim McGraw and a little also from Do It For Me by Rosenfeld.
Summary: You are childhood friends with Stefan and he turns you into a vampire and gets you to become a ripper too. This is set to still be in the 1800s, since Y/n and Stefan are approximately the same age. Stefan convinced Y/n to turn when they were in their twenties, a few years after Stefan turned at 17. So, around the early 1870s.
TW: Blood, murder

What have I done?
I watched Stefan sitting the body down on the couch, trying to balance a head on the neck it used to be attached to. His hands were caked in blood, smearing it onto the previously living man's face. The metal-scented substance was seeping into the carpet and couch, spattered on the walls and curtains. As alluring and intoxicating as the scent was, I still felt sick with myself as I reveled in it.

*Flashback, 1852*
"Come and get me!!"
I giggled wildly, taking off into the trees with the red ball clutched to my chest. The dappled lights in the woods made it hard to see, but I kept hurrying through as fast as my little legs could carry me.
"I'm gonna catch you, Y/n!" Stefan called, slightly out of breath but right on my tail.
"No you're no- ah!" I yelped when Stefan lunged on top of me, causing me to fall on my chest and right on top of the rubber ball. A popping noise startled me, and I felt the ball begin to deflate under me.
"Oh no! You popped it!" Stefan wailed.
"You're the one who jumped on me!" I crossed my arms, holding the limp rubber in one hand.
He didn't seem to have heard me, whimpering slightly. "That's Damon's ball! He's going to kill me if he finds out I popped his ball! You've gotta tell him you popped it or he'll never forgive me in a million years!"
"Nuh uh! You popped it." I huffed.
"Please!" He folded his hands and looked at me with wide eyes. "You've gotta. Do it for me. Just this once and I'll owe you."
I looked at the deflated ball and then at Stefan. "Fine."
. . .
*Present day*
"You know, I think you've gotten a lot better at this." Stefan commented, licking his fingers.
I said nothing, picking at my shirt sleeve. Even his voice rang in my ear uncomfortably.
He noticed my discomfort, hooking a finger under my chin. "What's wrong?"
"This doesn't feel right, Stefan." I sighed, looking away. "He didn't deserve this. None of them did."
"As a matter of fact, he did. It turns out he actually killed four people because they found out he was abusing his wife." He reminded me, his voice as casual as it might be if he were asking what I wanted for lunch. "Now doesn't that seem fair?"
"That still doesn't justify us killing, Stefan! And what about his kids, did they deserve this?"
"They were seventeen. No older than I was when I first killed someone."
"It's still wrong! I can't go on like this." I shouted, covering my face with my hands as I backed into the wall.
"Y/n, calm down."
"STOP YELLING AT ME!"
"I'm not yelling. I think it's just the vampire hearing, you're still not used to it." He took small steps towards me, speaking more softly to calm me down. "Listen, I know this is all new to you, and it's my fault for rushing you into this life. It's very overwhelming, I know. But I know a way to fix that."
. . .
*Flashback, 1871*
"You're not safe anymore."
I began pacing around the room, holding my arms. "I'll be fine. One vampire attack doesn't mean an apocalypse."
"You were attacked! I don't want this happening to you anymore."
"It won't, I'll be more careful."
"I can't trust that that will be enough anymore. I don't want to lose you," He began taking slow steps towards me, cupping my cheeks.
I placed a hand over his, smiling faintly. "You won't."
Stefan was silent for a moment, before saying, "Y/n, I need you to listen to me very carefully. What I'm about to ask you is a big question. It will change your life forever and I don't expect you to answer right away."
I watched him take in a deep breath. I somewhat already anticipated him asking this, but it somehow still surprised me when he said, "Do you want me to turn you into a vampire?"
"What? No!" Was my initial answer. "How could you ask me that?"
"Because I want you to be safe. I'm tired of being afraid that if I leave you alone it will be the last time I ever see you."
"I don't know." I sat down on the couch, playing with my fingers in thought.
"Please, Y/n." He sat down next to me, his eyes pleading and his voice wavering. "Do it for me."
After a long, tense silence, I nodded.
"Okay. You can turn me."
. . .
"I already know what you're going to say and I can't do that." I said firmly.
"Y/n, you need to calm down. This kind of grief is very hard to escape, but I did it. The pain doesn't hurt me."
"You're a ripper!" I gestured to the body pieces, which were falling apart. "How is that good, Stefan?"
"I don't hurt! I'm not weak, and I'm not sad and angry. Life is so much better this way, Y/n. Your emotions are holding you back." He stared into my eyes, but something was different when he said those four damn words: "Do it for me."
I looked up at Stefan. His voice didn't sound like he was on the verge of breaking down, and his eyes weren't ablaze with fear. He was calm.
I knew that this was manipulation. Somewhere in the back of my mind I knew that this has never been my decision and that he makes me think that I'm making him happy when I agree to whatever he says.
But if it meant I didn't have to hurt, I was okay with that.
