Chapter 53

Daniel raises his hand holding the scalpels and stabs them into the space around my eye. He was hoping that I would bleed everywhere before he retrieved my eyeballs, but instead, my body disappeared.

A string of slow clapping from above makes him look up in confusion. A small piece of the wall stuck out almost like it was broken off of a bridge. I sit down on the ledge with a smirk on my face.

"Looks to me like you are already dead."

"Wha-" His head falls into the water once more.

I tied a rope to the end of my sword as Uzui-san did before, and sliced through the eyes on the wall. I land on a column and watch as he reattaches his head.

I jump from column to column trying to avoid the numerous scalpels flying towards me from the walls. Some from behind, others from the side, a few from under the water. They follow me as I deflect with my sword and attack Daniel. I get a few cuts, but not too many are very deep. Both of us jump from column to column after the other, parrying, and attacking when a weak point was present.

I swing my sword towards his neck and as he jumps back I jump at him while he is in the air.

I stab right through his synthetic eye. After I pull my sword out it, start to deteriorate and he crumples down to the ground in pain. I land behind him and slice through his neck.

"If you find the correct button, the water will rise."

I look at the deteriorating demon and kneel. "Thanks, hope you get an eye in the afterlife.

Once the water level raised for enough I gripped onto the ledge and tried to pull myself up. Once I was out of the soaking water, I looked back at the water.

[Wow, that's a lot of blood.]

Once I squeezed most of the water out of my clothes, I went and started a large fire so that I wouldn't get sick. I also happened to get some information out of the patrolling demons that went to stop the fire.

[Upper moon 5 lives in a vase. The demon with a large bump on its head is upper moon 4. There is a demon who is playing the biwa.]

I already knew who the rest of the upper moons were, so I took the time and started to form another plan in case more than one shows up at a time. I took the black shoe polish I stole and the citrus oil from the orange that I ate. Black shoe polish contains charcoal components which make it flammable. D-limonene is the part of citrus oil that makes it flammable. When I was stealing candles, I also grabbed whatever I could and made a small container for the things I didn't want to be contaminated.

[I'm hungry. There is no food storage, no plants, not even grass. The only food I have seen was a literal drop of blood offered by upper moon 3. Before I promptly set him on fire to test how flammable each substance is with my limited supply.]

I run across the walkways, staircases, buildings, and demons. Promptly being followed by the smell of smoke and yelling of a few pretty pissed demons. I jumped over a tower and under a bridge before falling and ended up turned upside again and came face to back with a demon. He seems to be shaking or crying while trying to curl into a fetal position. When I see that the demon has a bump on its forehead, I draw my sword and point it towards him.

"Are you upper moon 4, Ha-Tengu or something?"

"Y-Yes. You are the person master wants."He raises himself off of the ground that he was curled upon.

"If you can, I want some answers before I kill you." He doesn't do anything so I continued with my questions. " Where is the way out of here? Where is this place in terms of distance of closest named village? What is your name, I forgot and I am certain that I said it wrong?"

"There is no way out for you. The place we are is called the infinity castle. Hantengu, Hantengu is my name."

"Alright Hantengu, sorry about the wrong name." I raise my sword to my chest.

I swing it in a U-like shape and I stop running once I am behind him and his neck was severed.

"Eek, I got cut up!"

I turn around to see if he would get back up again, which was highly likely. Only this time I come face to face with two demons. Both have a set of horns on their head like the demon before, but they now have normal-shaped heads. One having a seemingly carefree smile and the other with an unhappy frown. One holds two palm leaf-shaped fans and the other holds a staff with rings on it.

I run towards the closest one which is the one that holds a staff. I can feel the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and I jump to the side just narrowly missing a lightning strike. I stab through both of the shoulders of the demon before I sliced off his neck and ran towards the other demon. I watch his fans as I stab through one of them and his eyes. I narrowly dodged out of the way of another lightning bolt, my arm slightly getting numb from being right next to it. I move out of the way from the other lightning bolts taking my attention away from the other demon. I hear the flap of a leaf, and I was shot through the air and into the building.

Breath of stars: Scorpio

I jump through the hole I made in the wall towards the walkway where the demons were, but I was intercepted by another demon showing up. This time he had wings on his back and could fly. He also had a very delightful grin on his face. I could hear snippets of the previous demons talking on the walkway. He opens his mouth and I direct my sword into his throat. I drive the both of us down to the ground, and we land with a small cloud of smoke.

"You remind me of a book I once read. Funnily enough, I never was able to finish it because of you. I guess I will just have to cut you down till there is nothing left of you to split into." I unsheath my other sword and hold them in a defensive position.
