I don't know what I have done to deserve Hart's kindness but I'm so thankful.

I had dozed off in my chair when the doctor came in. "Ms. Fox's condition hasn't changed any and we arent sure how much longer we are going to keep her."

"What do you mean not keep her? Am I supposed to just take an unconscious woman home?" I asked.

"No, we will send her over to long care so she can get care over there." He said.

Once he walked out of the room I begin to cry. "Come on mom open your pretty eyes."

I walked over to the window and looked out and just cried.

I didn't hear anyone come into the room and when I turned around it was Hart.

"Visiting hours are over how are you here?" I asked wiping my eyes.

"I have my way. I brought you dessert. Clara makes these for my sister but I snuck and got some." He laughed pulling out a container.

"Oh no, you taking a pregnant woman's food." I laughed.

"She will be ok and these brownies with pecans are so good." He said handing me one.

"Oh gosh, now I'll need to run too." I smiled over at him.

The room was filled with silence while we eat the brownies. "Hart I really appreciate all you have done for me considering you don't know me."

"What are fiancée's for?" He laughed.

"Well, the doctor informed me that there is nothing else they can do for her and want to move her to long care but Hart I can't afford that."

"Hey listen it's going to be ok." He said.

For some reason, I believed him but I don't want to keep crying in front of him.

"Let's be honest here Hart I don't come from money and I don't make much at the diner and my brother has been sending money back for mom's insulin but I can't afford to put her in long-term care and I cant stay home and take care of her," I said.

"Listen to me when I say it will be ok Ayla. I will be sure it's ok just give me a little time ok?" He said.

"I don't expect anything from you Hart just know that," I said.

"I need to talk to my dad but I'll have answers for you in the morning ok? I'll bring breakfast by." He said.

"Thanks again, Hart." I smiled at him.

"Come on stand up and let me give you a hug because I know you need one." He said.

When his arms wrapped around me I felt safe and secure. I wrapped my arms around his back and let out a deep breath.

"Thanks, I needed that Hart."

"No problem. Anytime you need a hug I have free ones to give." He laughed.

"Go on home and text me to let me know you made it ok?" I said.

"Will do. I will see you in the morning. Goodnight Ayla."

"Nite Hart!" I said watching as he walked out the door.

I'm not sure I deserve this sweet guy in my life but at the moment I'm happy he is here.

I walked over to Mom's bedside and held her hand and kissed her head when the nurse came in.

"You are one lucky girl! That fiancée of yours is a catch." She said.

"Thank you!" I said smiling at her because I didn't know what else to say.

"Let me see the rock!" She said.

"Oh, I don't have it on sorry. It's at home." I said.

"Well shucks! But if you need anything just let me know." She said walking out.

Why does everyone know who Hart is but me?

I tried to get comfy in the reclining chair they gave me when my phone beeps.

📱 I made it home safe and sound.

📱 I'm glad you did Hart. The nurse just left and wanted to see my engagement ring oops.

📱 What did you say?

📱 I told her I left it at home.

📱 Fast thinking. I will see you in the morning with food. Goodnight Ayla! Text me if you need me.

📱 Thank you, Hart! Goodnight!

I smiled down at my phone and locked it and put it in my pocket and tried to go to sleep.

The next morning early the doctor came in to talk to me. "There still isn't any changes with your mother and we will get ready to move her to long term."

"I ask that you wait to do that until my fiancée gets here. He said don't let her be moved until then." I said.

"We can wait until you speak to him but we won't wait forever." He said walking out.

Rude much? I said to myself before sitting down looking over at mom.

I'm not sure why I put so much stock into  Hart but I'm hoping he can somehow pull out a miracle and help me.

My phone beeps and I pull it out of my pocket.

📱 How's mom?

📱 The same. They are wanting to move her to long-term but I'm not sure what's going on Christian.

📱 I'm sorry I'm not there and I can't get away right now as you know.

📱 Don't worry I will figure something out I always do.

📱 I put some money in checking for you while you are there I hope it helps.

I put my phone in my pocket and walk over to Mom's bed and lean down and kiss her cheek.

"I love you mom please wake up for me I need you," I said.

I looked at her and tried to hold my tears back. I'm so stressed out but all that matters is that mom gets better.

I brushed her hair again as the nurse walked in with a tray of food for me. "I thought you might be hungry."

"Thank you I appreciate that." I smiled at her.
