The Y/N Paradox

my brain is too weird for a oneshot today, so have my theory

also idk what a paradox is i just thought it was cool and was thinking about Big Bang Theory titles

So y'know Y/N stories? Otherwise known as 'x reader' or 'reader pov' stories?

Yeah, those!

In my opinion, Y/N, even though it means "Your name", is not me. It is merely an OC. Y/N has its own thoughts, its own personality, its own style. 

I have many examples.

When Y/N does something bad, you can see in the comment section

"Y/N YOU FUCKING IDIOT NO"

It seems as if you are telling a character on TV not to go in the fucking closet.

character is a key word here.

And when Y/N flirts, the comments read

"Y/N is smooth, someone teach me their ways"

See? Many people don't think of Y/N as themselves, their name, instead they think "Y/N" is their name, Y/N is a character.

Many times, if I'm practicing x reader stuff (which I don't do a lot lmao) I think "...Do I really want me to be in this, or just an OC?"

So x reader stories are basically x OC stories.

Now the thing is,, why do people like Y/N stories?

Is it the same liking of OC stories?

Or maybe it's the thought that "Y/N" means it's their character in a world that this person wants to live in.

Y/N stories are choices. You chose your hair color, you chose your eye color, you can chose your name. It's flexible, because other than gender, everything is at your hands.

It's the power of free will we all want, and this just puts in to the fact that people want power. They want power over their hair, their eyes, their name, even sometimes their gender (I think).

OC stories have set rules. This is the character name. This is their style. And you can't change it.

Once again, it's the choice of free will.
