Y/N's POV

Nobody really said it out loud, but we all knew what today meant.

Diamonds weren't just progress anymore.

They were the step before everything changed again.

Before the Nether.

Before whatever came after that.

Sapnap walked slightly ahead of me as we headed back toward the cave from yesterday, swinging his empty hand like he wasn't thinking about anything at all.

Dream was in front, already scanning the terrain like he could spot ores through stone.

I followed behind them both.

Trying not to think too hard.

Trying not to think about George.

We didn't talk much on the way.

Not because we didn't want to.

But because silence felt safer lately.

The cave entrance looked the same as yesterday.

Dark.

Still.

Waiting.

Sapnap cracked his knuckles again.

"Alright. Diamonds round two."

Dream gave him a look.

"Focus. We're not here to joke around."

"I can multitask emotionally," Sapnap said.

"No you can't."

"Yes I can."

I stepped past both of them before they could keep arguing.

"Can we just go in?"

That shut them up.

We went in.

The cave was colder today.

Or maybe it just felt that way.

Torches went down one by one as we moved deeper.

Dream led.

Sapnap stayed behind him.

I took the back.

At first, everything was normal.

Stone.

Coal.

Iron.

The usual rhythm of mining.

Break block. Place torch. Move forward.

Break block. Place torch. Move forward.

It was almost calming.

Almost.

Then Sapnap called out.

"Wait, lava ahead."

We slowed.

Dream stepped forward carefully.

"There's obsidian forming here. We can come back for this."

I nodded, watching the glowing orange pool below.

That's when I saw it.

A narrow ledge along the side.

Just wide enough to walk across.
