Dream's POV

I woke up before the others.

Not because I meant to.

Just... because I couldn't sleep properly anymore.

The house was quiet in that way it always got just before morning, when even Minecraft itself felt like it hadn't fully loaded yet.

Y/N was still asleep on the far bed.

Sapnap was half on the floor, half on a stack of wool like he'd given up halfway through deciding where to exist.

Everything looked normal.

Which somehow made it worse.

I sat up slowly and swung my legs off the bed.

My armor was still on the chest from yesterday.

Slightly scratched.

Slightly dull.

I stared at it for a moment longer than I should've.

Then I stood up.

Outside.

I don't know why I went outside first.

I just did.

The door creaked softly as I stepped into the morning air.

The farm was still there.

The wheat was still growing.

The pens were still intact.

Everything was exactly where we left it.

But something felt... paused.

Like the world hadn't fully decided what today was supposed to be yet.

I stepped forward anyway.

And then I saw him.

I stopped walking immediately.

That didn't happen often.

He was standing in the middle of the field.

Just there.

Like he had always been there.

Like he had never left.

George.

He wasn't moving.

Just looking down at the wheat like he was thinking.

Holding something in his hand; his fishing rod.

My brain refused to catch up.

That didn't make sense.

None of that made sense.

And then he looked up.

"Oh," he said casually. "You're awake early."

Like he hadn't died.

Like I hadn't watched it happen.

Like nothing had happened at all.

"...George?" I said.

He tilted his head.

"Yeah?"

I took a step forward without realizing it.

The ground felt too real under my boots.

"You—" I started.

I stopped.

Because what do you even say to that?

He frowned slightly.

"Why are you looking at me like that?"
