Dream's POV

The first thing I noticed was the sound.

Waves.

Steady and rhythmic.

Crashing against a shoreline somewhere nearby.

The second thing I noticed was that my bed was gone.

I opened my eyes and immediately sat up.

Sand.

Blue sky.

Ocean.

Definitely not my bedroom.

"...What?"

I pushed myself to my feet, brushing sand from my jeans as I looked around.

A small island stretched around me, barely large enough to hold a single oak tree.

Beyond that was nothing but endless water.

For a few moments I simply stood there.

Trying to figure out whether I was dreaming.

Kidnapped.

Or losing my mind.

None of those options seemed particularly appealing.

A strange weight rested against my chest.

Looking down, I found my mask hanging loosely around my neck.

The familiar white mask.

The one painted with a simple black smile.

For some reason, seeing it made me relax slightly.

At least something was familiar.

I slipped it back into place and tightened the straps.

Much better.

The second the mask settled against my head, a sharp pulse vibrated through my wrist.

I looked down.

A watch.

One I definitely didn't own.

Before I could inspect it further, a bright screen appeared in front of me.

A voice echoed from every direction.

"Welcome, player."

I immediately frowned.

That couldn't be good.

The voice continued.

"You have been selected to participate in the Challenge."

The words hung in the air.

Challenge?

I crossed my arms.

Already annoyed.

The explanation continued.

Survive.

Complete challenges.

Find the others.

Reach the End.

Kill the Ender Dragon.

Fail, and remain trapped here forever.

By the time the message ended, I had exactly one thought.

"This is Minecraft."

CHALLENGE
GET TO THE MAINLAND

The screen disappeared.
