Y/n's POV

The first thing I noticed when I woke up was the smell.

Something was cooking.

My eyes slowly opened as golden sunlight streamed through the gaps in the wooden walls, illuminating tiny particles of dust floating through the air.

For a moment, I just lay there.

Everything felt strangely peaceful.

Then I remembered.

Minecraft.

The challenges.

George.

The weird floating inventory.

The fact that I was apparently trapped inside a block game.

Right.

Not a dream.

Unfortunately.

I pushed myself upright and immediately noticed something.

George wasn't in the corner where he had fallen asleep.

His backpack was gone too.

I frowned.

"George?"

No response.

The house was empty.

A small knot formed in my stomach.

He wouldn't have left, would he?

We had only known each other for a day, but he was literally the only person I'd met in this world.

The idea of being alone again suddenly felt a lot less appealing.

I quickly grabbed my stone sword and headed outside.

The cool morning air brushed against my face.

The meadow looked completely different in daylight.

Yesterday everything had felt magical.

Today it felt real.

Dangerously real.

The grass swayed gently in the breeze while a few sheep wandered through the field nearby.

Everything looked peaceful.

Almost too peaceful.

I scanned the area.

Still no George.

"Great," I muttered. "One day and I've already lost him."

A voice behind me immediately replied.

"Lost who?"

I jumped.

Spinning around so fast I nearly hit him with my sword.

George stumbled backward.

"WOAH!"

I lowered the sword immediately.

"Oh my God."

His eyes widened.

"You almost killed me."

"You scared me!"

"I said something before I walked up!"

"You were behind me!"

George stared for a moment.

Then started laughing.

I tried not to laugh.

I failed.
