Y/N's POV

The Nether didn't feel like it was getting easier.

It felt like it was getting used to us.

And I didn't like that thought at all.

We'd been walking for what felt like hours, though time didn't really behave properly here. The sky stayed the same shade of burning red no matter how long we moved, like the world had decided sunrise and sunset were optional concepts.

Sapnap kicked a small patch of soul sand and immediately regretted it.

"I hate this place," he said again.

"You've said that six times," George replied.

"It deserves all six."

Dream stayed slightly ahead of us, scanning the terrain like he was reading something the rest of us couldn't see.

I walked just behind him.

Not because I was following.

Because it felt safer there.

That thought made me frown a little.

I didn't like needing that.

But I couldn't exactly deny it either.

A low rumble rolled through the air.

I stopped.

"Did anyone else—"

BOOM.

The sound cracked across the Nether before I even finished.

A fireball slammed into the basalt cliffs nearby, exploding into glowing embers.

All four of us froze.

Then immediately scattered.

"GHAST!" Sapnap shouted like it personally insulted him.

As if to confirm, a massive white shape drifted through the red fog above us.

Floating.

Silent.

Too calm for something that was about to kill us.

Another fireball formed.

Dream grabbed my arm.

"Move!"

We ran.

The ground beneath us wasn't stable anymore.

Every step mattered.

Every direction mattered.

Another fireball hit behind us, blasting chunks of basalt into the air.

George stumbled slightly.

I turned—

"George!"

"I'm fine!" he yelled back instantly, too quickly.

Sapnap was already yelling at the ghast like it could hear him.

"WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS?!"

"I don't think it cares!" I shouted.

"It SHOULD!"

Dream suddenly changed direction.

"Over here!"

We followed without question.

That was becoming a pattern.

Not because we were told to.
