Dream's POV

I woke up to pressure on my chest.

For one blissful second, I thought I was still dreaming.

Then the pressure moved.

And laughed.

My eyes snapped open.

Sapnap was sitting on top of me.

"Morning."

I shoved him off immediately.

"What is wrong with you?"

He rolled onto the grass beside me laughing.

"You looked comfortable."

"I was asleep."

"Exactly."

I sat up and grabbed the nearest piece of bread.

"You are the worst person I've ever met."

Sapnap grinned.

"And yet you're stuck with me."

Unfortunately, he had a point.

The small dirt hut we'd spent the night in was already warming up as the sun climbed higher into the sky.

I stretched my sore shoulders and grabbed my backpack.

"We need to keep moving."

Sapnap groaned dramatically.

"We literally just woke up."

"We have no idea where the other players are."

"Neither do they."

I stared at him.

He stared back.

Then he shrugged.

"Still not a reason to walk."

Despite myself, I laughed.

A tiny laugh.

But enough for Sapnap to immediately point at me.

"You laughed."

"No I didn't."

"You did."

"Get your backpack."

The road quickly became familiar.

Walk.

Talk.

Gather supplies.

Repeat.

The compass still pointed steadily ahead, and for now that was all we had to go on.

Sapnap kicked a small rock down a hill.

"So."

"So?"

"What do you think the other players are like?"

I adjusted the straps on my backpack.

"No idea."

"You think they're dangerous?"

"Everyone's dangerous."

"That's concerning."

"I'm serious."

The challenge had already made that clear.

None of us knew the rules.

None of us knew how long we'd be here.
