Y/N's POV

I woke up to George kicking somebody.

Again.

"Ow!"

Sapnap's voice echoed through camp.

"What was that for?"

"You were snoring."

"I was asleep!"

"Exactly."

"That's not a crime."

"It should be."

I pulled my blanket over my head.

Maybe if I ignored them, they'd stop.

They didn't.

Dream groaned from somewhere nearby.

"If either of you wake me up again, I'm throwing both of you into the lava."

Silence.

A pause.

Then George whispered:

"He's getting crankier."

"I heard that."

I smiled despite myself.

The smile faded the moment I remembered where we were.

The Nether.

The fortress.

The challenge.

Today wasn't going to be easy.

I sat up slowly.

The camp was already beginning to stir.

Orange light from the lava lake painted everything in warm colors.

For a second it almost looked peaceful.

Then a ghast screamed somewhere in the distance.

Never mind.

Breakfast was quick.

Bread.

Cooked pork.

A few carrots.

Nobody ate much.

The fortress hung over all of us like a storm cloud.

Eventually Dream stood.

"Gear check."

Immediately everyone began checking equipment.

Iron armor.

Shields.

Weapons.

Food.

Building blocks.

Everything we'd spent days preparing.

Everything we'd trained for.

George adjusted his chestplate.

"Okay."

Sapnap looked at him.

"Okay?"

"Okay."

"That's your motivational speech?"

George spread his arms.

"What do you want from me?"

Sapnap looked offended.

"Something inspiring."

George thought for a second.

Then pointed dramatically toward the fortress.
