Y/N's POV

The Nether was awful.

Not in a surprising way.

It was exactly as awful as I expected.

Hot.

Loud.

Dangerous.

Every direction looked the same, and every few minutes something new tried to kill us.

Honestly, it was impressive.

We'd been walking for what felt like hours.

The lava oceans stretched endlessly beneath us, broken only by jagged cliffs of blackstone and patches of crimson forest. Every now and then a distant ghast cried somewhere in the fog, making my entire body tense before I remembered it wasn't actually next to us.

At least not yet.

"How much farther do you think we have to go?" Sapnap asked.

"No idea," Dream replied.

"Helpful."

"I try."

George walked beside me, occasionally poking random blocks with his sword as we moved.

I still wasn't completely used to him being here.

Every time I looked over and saw him walking beside us, some small part of my brain expected him to disappear.

Like if I looked away too long he'd be gone again.

It was stupid.

He was here.

Alive.

Talking.

Complaining.

Exactly like normal.

And somehow that almost made it harder to believe.

"You're doing it again."

I blinked.

"What?"

George pointed at me.

"That thing."

"Very descriptive."

"You keep staring at me."

My face immediately warmed.

"I am not."

"You are."

"I'm literally not."

Sapnap appeared beside us instantly.

"Oh, she's definitely been doing that."

"Whose side are you on?"

"George's."

"Traitor."

"Correct."

George laughed.

A real laugh.

Not forced.

Not awkward.

Just George.

For a second all three of us went quiet.

The sound lingered in the air.

And suddenly I realized why.

We'd missed that.

All of us.

Nobody said it.

Nobody had to.

Because we were all thinking the same thing.
