Chapter 33

Y/N's POV

The Nether Fortress looked a lot closer than it actually was.

That was the first thing I learned.

The second thing I learned was that everything in the Nether was trying to kill you.

The third thing I learned was that somehow, despite all of that, George still found ways to complain about things that weren't life-threatening.

"It's hot."

Sapnap looked at him.

"We're literally in the Nether."

"I know."

"So why are you acting surprised?"

George gestured wildly around us.

"Because I forgot how hot it is."

"You were dead."

"And now I'm not."

"Congratulations."

"Thank you."

I rolled my eyes and kept walking.

The fortress sat across a massive lava lake, dark stone stretching high into the red fog. We'd been heading toward it for nearly an hour now, carefully navigating cliffs, lava falls, and terrain that looked like it had been designed specifically to make people miserable.

Nobody had said it out loud yet, but I could tell we were all nervous.

The challenge was one thing.

The Nether Fortress was another.

This was our first challenge since George came back.

Our first challenge where we were all together again.

And maybe that was why nobody wanted to rush into it.

Eventually Dream stopped walking.

I nearly walked into him.

"What?"

He pointed toward a rocky ledge overlooking the lava lake.

"We camp here."

George immediately looked relieved.

"Thank God."

Sapnap frowned.

"It's the middle of the day."

"And?"

"And we literally just got here."

Dream crossed his arms.

"The fortress isn't going anywhere."

Sapnap opened his mouth.

Then closed it.

Then nodded.

"Okay that's actually fair."

For once.

An hour later we had a proper camp.

Well.

As proper as a Nether camp could be.

Cobblestone walls.

A crafting table.

Furnaces.

Storage.

A roof that would hopefully stop ghasts from ruining our lives.

George immediately claimed a corner.

"This is my spot."

"No it isn't," Dream said.
