Y/N's POV

The fortress felt different at night.

Not louder.

Not more dangerous.

Just... quieter in a way that made everything feel closer.

Like the walls were listening.

We moved slower this time.

Dream led with barely any sound at all, stepping over cracked blackstone like he already knew where every weak point was.

George followed close behind him.

I stayed slightly back with Sapnap.

Not assigned.

Just... natural.

Like the group had split itself without needing permission.

"We're looking for a side corridor," Dream whispered. "Nether wart rooms are usually deeper, near stairwells."

"Usually?" I mouthed.

He didn't look back.

"Minecraft doesn't guarantee anything."

Sapnap leaned slightly toward me.

"That's the most unhelpful useful sentence I've ever heard."

I almost smiled.

Almost.

But the fortress swallowed sound too easily for comfort.

We passed two Blaze spawners without triggering them.

That alone felt like luck.

Or skill.

Or both.

George stopped suddenly.

Hand up.

All of us froze instantly.

A distant sound echoed down the corridor.

Not Blaze.

Not Piglin.

Something slower.

Footsteps.

Sapnap mouthed: "Uh oh."

Dream motioned us back.

We slipped behind a broken wall just as a patrol of Wither Skeletons crossed the intersection ahead.

Three of them.

Long pauses between movements.

Heavy.

Wrong.

George's expression changed slightly.

Not fear.

Recognition.

I noticed it immediately.

"George?" I whispered.

He blinked.

"...I remember this."

Dream glanced at him sharply.

"Remember what?"

George hesitated.

"I think I've been here before."

Silence.

Sapnap frowned.

"Like... before today?"

George shook his head.
