Mikaela's POV
"He left you again?"
Crumpling the letter up into a ball, I stormed towards the trash can, throwing the paper inside. "That was the last straw," I snapped. "He can't come back from this."
Kai was by my side in an instant, holding my face in his hands. "I'm so sorry he keeps doing this to you."
I shrugged. "It's whatever." Today had been far too eventful for my liking. I was ready to curl up under the covers and escape reality.
Why don't you just turn it off? a sickly-sweet voice taunted me from somewhere deep in my mind.
Telling the voice to shut the hell up, I wrapped my arms around the beautiful witch in front of me, resting my head against his chest, allowing the steady beat of his heart to calm me down. Kai's hands slipped to the back of my head, holding me tightly against him, sighing softly in content.
This was my happy place.
A happy place I never, ever wanted to lose.
"I'm done being a coward," I mumbled, my cheek pressed against his shirt.
Kai pulled back to look down at me in confusion. "What?"
I gulped. "If today has shown me anything it's that life is too short," I explained. "I don't want to wait anymore. I want to be with you."
Every muscle in his body froze for a good ten seconds before he managed to say, "Like... officially?"
I nodded once. "Officially."
He tilted his head, the hint of a smirk playing on his lips. "Okay, so, let me get this straight - I can call you my girlfriend now, right?"
I laughed, unable to stop the grin spreading across my face. "Yes, Kai," I told him. "You can call me your girlfriend."
Without warning, he picked me up and spun me around, both of us giggling like idiots. "Yes! I have a girlfriend!" he cheered, before lowering me back to the ground to shower my face in kisses. "I'm not a loser anymore!"
Scrunching up my features with a smile as his lips kept up the relentless pecks over my cheeks and nose, I said, "Kai, you've never been a loser."
Finally, he pulled back. "Debatable," he replied with a shrug. He beamed a smile at me. "But wow, this is great, I feel awesome right now." His hands found their way to hold either side of my face once again. "I love you so much."
"I love you too... boyfriend."
His jaw dropped. "Oh God, that's so hot," he admitted. "Say it again."
