The lockdown was over and everybody began making plans, somewhat tentatively. Wei Ying was super conscious about not posing a risk to anyone else, and Lan Zhan was super conscious about him being safe, so he never went out without a bottle of hand sanitizer and a mask.

Jiang Cheng had phoned him, asking Wei Ying to go out for a coffee, and surprisingly, Lan Zhan had agreed.

"I have the best boyfriend ever!" Wei Ying had exclaimed, and so of course, Lan Zhan had to prove it to him.

Jiand Cheng could roll his eyes however much he wanted outside; Lan Zhan couldn't care less. One long kiss later, and he reluctantly let Wei Ying go.

Besides, he had plans.

*******

"Why don't you propose already? You make me sick." Jiang Cheng was saying, giving him a shove.

But there was a twinkle in his amethyst eyes.

"Actually, Jiang Cheng, that's why I agreed, I mean I told Lan Zhan that it was your idea, but I want to do something special for him. You can help me choose it." Wei Ying shoved him back playfully.

Jiang Cheng made mock throwing up noises.

"You can't avoid it. It's part of your duties. I'll explain when we get there." Wei Ying grabbed his arm and they began running. "We don't have much time, either. On average, how long does it take to drink coffee?"

"Ordinary people or you?" Jiang Cheng smirked.

"Me." Wei Ying grinned.

"You can go back tomorrow morning, and he'll still be none the wiser." Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes.

"Let's hurry anyway. I don't want to be late."

Jiang Cheng took another look at his brother.

On a normal occasion, Wei Ying would have come back at him with another sharp retort...and the fact that he hadn't, well...that just showed him how much Wei Ying was stressing about what they were going to do. So he sighed internally and tried to be happier for his brother.

*********

It was dark by the time Wei Ying got home. And what was strange, was that their home was in complete darkness.

Was there a power outage?

He looked back outside; but no, other people had their porch lights still on.

Then, had something happened to his Lan Zhan? Lan Zhan always and without fail, kept the porch light on for him, ever since they had moved into their new home together. Worried now, Wei Ying hurried in, throwing his keys into their bronze bowl. It was forged in the shape of an eight petalled lotus flower, and Lan Zhan had insisted on buying it, saying it reminded him of Wei Ying. Therefore, it was the perfect gift for their new home because home was what they represented to each other.

He was drawn to the living room, where a single white stem candle was lit. Next to it, he saw something that made his heart skid to a stop.

It was a pale blue envelope, sealed and ready to be opened by eager fingers. Lan Zhan had written his name in beautiful calligraphy on the front.

His hands began to shake as he opened it, the letter still smelling of rich sandalwood.

"My dearest Suibian,

Follow the lights...

Yours,

Bichen.

Wei Ying carefully tucked the note back inside the envelope and put it in his pocket, his eyes already moist. Lan Zhan had used his precious blue stationary again, and surely it was for something special. Anticipation flooded his veins as he wondered which lights he was to follow, when he saw that someone had lit a path of tea lights.
