TUESDAY

Lan Zhan looked over to where Wei Ying was sitting, back to working on his computer. XiChen's tea had worked wonders and he looked much better, which was a relief to Lan Zhan.

He couldn't help but be concerned over what Wei Ying was going through, and he was upset over his reaction to Su She, but Wei Ying had said over and over that he did not recognise the man. Yet it bothered Lan Zhan that something in Wei Ying's subconscious was trying to warn him.

So he picked up the phone and called Huaisang.

"Hello?"

"Lan WangJi."

"What can I do for you?"

"I'm looking into another person." He kept his voice low so Wei Ying wouldn't be disturbed.

There was no point in alarming him just yet because Lan Zhan didn't have anything yet, unless instincts counted.

"Name?"

"Lan Su She. Xiongzhang said he lived in Denver."

"Alright. I'll look into it. I'll be coming by this evening with the report, it will be complete by then."

"Mn." He ended the call.

He and Huaisang had an understanding; no need to speak more than necessary, and it worked well. They always stuck to the point and in a way, Lan Zhan had a profound respect for him. He always managed to get the job done on the rare occasions that Lan Zhan needed to contact him; if information was power, then Huaisang was the proverbial King on his computer throne.

He turned back to his futile search on the strange Su She. Not much was known about him; his resume yielded nothing much worth noting. He had grown up in Detroit, family moved to Denver when he was a teenager.

Lan Zhan hated social media, and wasn't a fan of Facebook at all, so he decided to leave that to Huaisang and returned to his overseas customer. They went back and forth a bit before agreeing to an eight o' clock meeting on Thursday night.

The movement on the couch had him looking up to a yawning Wei Ying, pulling the blanket closer around his shoulders. Lan Zhan checked the time and decided it was close enough to five, and since he was going to be staying longer on Thursday night, them going home early now balanced things out nicely.

He went to see what Wei Ying was doing.

The screen was open on an Instagram account, the name of someone he didn't recognise. He came and sat down next to Wei Ying.

"Mn?"

"Mutual friend, though I say the name loosely. Of Meng Yao and myself, though I.... didn't really like him. Kind of full of himself, you know what I mean?" Wei Ying scrolled through the pictures, travelling down through the years.

"Sect Leader Yao?" Lan Zhan asked, with a smirk.

"Yeah, you get it. He keeps giving himself titles like that, to what end beats me. Anyway, there was a time I thought Meng Yao liked him to the point where I thought he was an ex-boyfriend. We used to frequent the basketball courts and he'd always turn up after we started playing. I thought Meng Yao would have invited him."

Lan Zhan still didn't see the point and it must have shown on his face, because Wei Ying leaned up to kiss his cheek.

"I'm looking to see if he contacted Meng Yao at any time in the last three years. Of course he won't be obvious about it, but this whole thing with Meng Yao has got me wanting to be a little bit proactive. I don't wanna be a sitting duck when he comes for me. I want to be prepared." His hand shook as he went to scroll down.
