They walked hand in hand together up the mountain path that led to the clearing on the cliff side. It was a warm night, and with a pleasant breeze, the fragrance of night jasmine dancing around them.

Wei Ying felt content and happy but at the same time, his impending meeting with Bichen was weighing on his mind. Jiang Cheng and his Shijie were further along, walking side by side next to the Jins, and Nie Huaisang was tagging thoughtfully behind them, tapping his fan on his cheek.

Wen Qing and Wen Ning were right at the start with other disciples scattered around them.

The clearing was already prepared with the different types of paper, wire for stringing the candle which would rest at its base, enabling the lanterns to actually float.

Lan Zhan tried not to be too excited, but he really wanted to make a lantern with Wei Ying, to decorate it together and, to set it off together.

There were traditions linked to this, and he fervently wished to do this with his future Cultivation Partner...even the thought was making his ears uncomfortably hot...but it was the truth he wished to see.

Wei Ying purposefully hung back from the others, tugging on Lan Zhan’s hand, waiting for him to look at him.

"Mn?"

"Lan Zhan...would you..." now this moment was here, Wei Ying felt painfully shy. What if Lan Zhan said no? But he decided to be brave and practical. If he said no, that was just a no, it didn't mean anything...so he ploughed on. "Would you like to make one together?" He looked down at his boots, suddenly terribly embarrassed.

Lan Zhan thought he was so cute. His cheeks were a healthy shade of pink, mostly from the exertion of climbing the steep path, but he suspected Wei Ying, the most shameless one of the guest disciples, was actually shy...?

So with a single finger, he lifted Wei Ying's chin up to look directly into his shining silver eyes.

"Mn. Together." And then, without warning and because he couldn’t help himself, he fitted his lips upon those beautiful pink ones, delighting in the short, sharp shocks that broke out all over his body. Tingles erupted everywhere and something settled deep within his chest, as if this was what he was born to do.

Wei Ying was surprised by him, but not so much that he couldn’t kiss him back. His tongue demanded entrance and Lan Zhan complied, tasting him back. The scent of sandalwood and lotus flowers combined to cause a new fragrance to float around them, and soon, Wei Ying was panting into his mouth. Lan Zhan was wondering what biting him would feel like, and since there was no one to stop him, he bit down on Wei Ying's collar bone.

The hiss that Wei Ying made, was giving him all manner of symptoms, and this time with a little difficulty walking, it was Lan Zhan who took his hand and led Wei Ying up the rest of the way.

They found a secluded spot, away from the others and sat down in the green grasses. While Lan Zhan twisted the wire into a holder for the candle, Wei Ying decided to decorate the paper which would be the actual lantern.

When he was done, he proudly showed Lan Zhan.

"Look, Lan Zhan!"

Lan Zhan did, and unbidden, a smile came to his lips.

There were two beautiful rabbits drawn on two sides, one with a red ribbon tied around its neck and the other had a blue ribbon around its forehead.

They stood up as soon as it was assembled.

Lan Zhan lit the candle and then they both held the bottom of the lantern.

"Lan Zhan...let's make our wishes. Okay?" Wei Ying told him, his bright eyes shining in the half light.
