Lost.

Lan Zhan couldn't recall a time ever, when he was lost.

It was a strange feeling, though he didn't feel scared. In fact, he could feel the first stirrings of anticipation curling in his belly, at the thought of the challenge ahead.

"What are we going to do, Gege?" Wei Ying says, whispering right in his ear.

Lan Zhan suppresses a shiver, with difficulty.

He does not believe for a second that they're lost.

There's no way that someone who grew up in Yiling, who regularly must come up here to collect ingredients for his paints, as Wei Ying has already admitted, could possibly be lost.

So this must be yet another impromptu test, one that Wei Ying is looking forward to with glee.

In these two weeks, Wei Ying has managed to keep him on his toes at almost every minute, with challenge after challenge. He keeps changing everything, making up random tasks designed to test his physical capabilities, or his mental strength, or even a combination of the two.

It's as much an exploration of his own character as an actual test, and Lan Zhan is surprised to have learned as much about himself as what he has learned about Wei Ying.

Lan Zhan will freely admit that these two weeks have been more rewarding, more exhilarating than the twenty plus years cultivating in Gusu. That's not to say that he doesn't appreciate his upbringing, but more, it is that these new lessons have enhanced his skills, and this opportunity to learn has come at a time when he thought he had exhausted all possible avenues in his homeland.

It drives the newest thought: that opportunities to learn come from any place, and that one is never too old to learn.

"I could use Bichen." He says.

Was that disappointment in Wei Ying's eyes?

He cannot tell; in this half light, those beautiful eyes are no less captivating, having something in common with the shadows that surround them.

"Show me."

Lan Zhan summons Bichen and hands over his sword without a second's doubt.

The pale ivory is set with silver, illuminating even in this semi-darkness. And as the moon rises, its pale glow emits a shimmer from this most spiritual of weapons.

"I shall look at it tomorrow." Wei Ying says.

And then, they both disappear.

Well…that's unexpected.

Lan Zhan takes a deep breath.

Ordinarily, he would look to the direction of the sun, or the moon, and try to find his bearings that way.

Hence calling upon Bichen, because the tangled branches of the trees surrounding them are too thick to show either of these things, and Wei Ying has successfully confused his sense of direction by taking him on a thoroughly circular path.

Lan Zhan had planned on fighting his way to the sky and determining his bearings that way.

But he is conveniently minus a sword and a mentor.

When did he start thinking of Wei Ying being his mentor? And was it possible to fall in love with one!??

That thought buckles his knees, and takes away his breath.

How?

When did that happen?

He feels angry at that, first.
