Dare to Love Part 4

Wei Ying did not sleep well that night. In the morning when he woke, he was still tired and his eyes felt heavy. Jiang Cheng took one look at him and laughed.

"What happened to you?"

Wei Ying was not in any sort of mood to be teased, but being mostly responsible for Jiang Cheng's malady of the previous day, he spoke.

"What about you? How do you feel today?"

"Much better." He stretched and yawned. "But I reckon there's something wrong with those chocolates you bought yesterday. You should take them back and complain."

"I will. I'll do it this morning." Wei Ying decided.

He didn't mean to actually go there and complain, but now that he was thinking about it, he wanted to buy something for Lan Zhan. The valet had already gifted him two flowers, okay, one didn't count because it was for Chenqing, but technically it did.

ShenShen Yu came in then and smiled at her son who was on his way out with a towel. She saw Wei Ying and came to check his temperature.

"Aren't you feeling well? Did you sleep?" She sat down next to him.

"I did but not very well." He admitted.

"Why? Is there something on your mind?"

"Someone..."

Oh no...he hadn't actually said that out loud, had he?

He lifted his eyes up towards her face, and saw a teasing glint, replaced by concern because to his abject horror, his eyes had filled with tears. ShenShen Yu gathered him into her arms, patting his head softly.

"It's alright to feel how you're feeling." She said gently. "If you like someone, surely that's a good thing?"

Wei Ying hugged her back, wondering how much he could say without getting anyone else into trouble. Suffice to say, if she knew everything, she would not be as sympathetic.

"What if that person doesn't like me?"

"That's impossible!" She said, straight away. "Do I need to go beat someone up?"

Wei Ying smiled through his tears.

"He likes someone else...but he gave me a flower..."

She repeated what he said, but more dangerously.

"Wei WuXian, if you have allowed someone to play with your feelings, that is unacceptable. I must ask you, what happened exactly? And if he gave you a flower too, is he confused? I can straighten him up for you, just say the word!"

Wei Ying wiped his face feeling much better.

"He seemed happy to see me...but we don't know each other that well. But ShenShen,  he's so nice, and he protected me from a pack of dogs, he even let me cry on him...I really like him..." He ended tearfully.

"How does he feel about you?" She asked tenderly, cupping his face.

"I...I don't know."

"You don't know?"

Wei Ying nodded.

"Well, why ever not? Didn't you ask him?" She said, sharply.

"I'm scared to." His bottom lip trembled.

ShenShen Yu took both of his hands in hers.

"Listen to me. In matters of the heart, there must be clarification. Otherwise people end up getting hurt, and most of the time, that could have been avoided."
