Madam Yu was punished in a trial that involved all the Sect Leaders. They came together to announce that such acts of cruelty were not acceptable as a form of discipline, and as such, her Zidian was passed on down to the Jiang Heir, Jiang WanYin.
The Jiang Clan was also forced to pay reparations to Wei WuXian which in turn would be used as part of his dowry in his upcoming marriage to the Second Jade of Gusu.
Jiang Fengmian was held accountable due to the fact that he could not have been ignorant of the happenings in Lotus Pier and because he had done nothing to prevent the unjust and extreme nature of the reprimands, he was forced into seclusion as was Madam Yu. Jiang Fengmian was allowed to stay in Lotus Pier but when it came to the subject of where Madam Yu would reside, Nie MingJue stepped up to the task.
Madam Yu was to spend the rest of her life in seclusion within the dungeons of the Unclean Realm.
She was not allowed to complain either; whenever she had tried to open her mouth during the verdict, she would open her mouth only to find no sound would come out.
Jiang Cheng decided to leave for Lotus Pier the day before his parents were to begin their sentences. He managed to corner Wei Ying just as the latter was trying to return to the Jingshi.
"Did you know about the ambush on my parents?" He demanded.
No hello, no greetings of any sort, he just launched into it.
"What do you mean?" Wei Ying had hedged.
The problem was, no matter how he answered, Jiang Cheng would be hurt. If he said yes, then Jiang Cheng would feel like he had suffered the sort of betrayal one was never prepared for...and if Wei Ying said no...whether Jiang Cheng believed him or not was questionable, but Jiang Cheng would have launched into a tirade no matter what.
His loud shouting brought Lan Zhan out from the Jingshi, and he happened to have company at the time.
XiChen smiled brightly at both of them when they bowed in greeting. Wei Ying out of relief, and Jiang Cheng out of respect to the Sect Leader. Lan Zhan did not bother bowing and went and stood slightly in front of Wei Ying. His hand discreetly reached back to entwine their fingers together, hidden by his huge white pillowing sleeves.
Jiang Cheng remained silent then, glowering at a Wei WuXian who wouldn't look up from his feet.
"I'm sorry about what they decided...about the money." Wei Ying replied, after many moments of silence.
His expression cleared at that, and Jiang Cheng nearly smiled.
"Don't worry about that. It is a fitting end. Promise me you will use it wisely?"
Wei Ying would have missed it were it not for the squeeze on his hand as Lan Zhan tugged him forward a little.
"Um...okay. But...Jiang Cheng...Will you...Will you be alright?" Wei Ying finally asks the question that has been worrying him all this time.
He looks up into amethyst eyes, a little more shrewd than when they first arrived.
"I think you might have other things to worry about than Lotus Pier." He says quietly now. "Don't worry about us...but don't forget about us either. Keep an eye out for a wedding invitation...the Peacock has finally gotten the courage to ask. And I'll be waiting for one from you..."
As he went to pull Wei Ying into an awkward hug, XiChen took his elbow and steered him away.
"Actually, Sect Leader Jiang, I have one or two things we need to discuss..."
Wei Ying and Lan Zhan stared after them, one puzzled and the other in obvious distaste...there really was no accounting for taste it seemed.
Lan Zhan tugged on Wei Ying's hand, and led him inside their home. He silently made Wei Ying sit at his little table and poured some tea.
